I tried this on the general board, but maybe it should go here....
Both by SRZ-65 and my Route 66 have 4, 8, and 16-ohm speaker outs. If I am powering more than one cab, does the impedance get split in half, or does it stay true to what the labels say? With other amps, I’ve been told that when powering two cabs, the amp “sees” half the resistance, so an 8-ohm out would actually become a 4-ohm out, etc.

It is my understanding that you shouldn't plug multiple cabs directly into Z's. If you want multiple cabs, you should use one that has multiple jacks. So, if you had an 8ohm cab with a parallel jack, plug that cab into the 4ohm amp output and plug another 8ohm cab into the first cab. If it is wired in series, use the 16ohm output. If you are mixing cabs with different impedance, I'm not sure which tap you should use...

You can get a splitter or use a Y cable to run two 8ohm cabs into the 4ohm input

Thanks for the info guys!
Looks like I'll be hitting up bayoucables.com for a Y cable.

I just emailed Dr Z and his replay was that it was fine to plug 2 "8" ohm cabs into the "4" ohm input on the back of the head using a "Y" cable.
Cheers from KC

Radio Shack has an adapter that's great for this application. Catalog #: 274-892 @ $4.99

Radio Shack has an adapter configured with 2 female 1/4" jacks on one side, connected to 1 male 1/4" jack on the other side. Very easy, compact & around $5.00. Make sure it is for speaker cable, not instrument-type cable.

Hey guys, My company started making a Y adapter for some of the other members here at dr Z. Its a heavy duty Y cable with large body female connectors with a right angle connector that comes out the back of the amp. Very nice. There is a dr z forum member discount too. Coupon code is "zamps". The radio shack one listed above will work but is not made for speaker cable applications. You may or may not hear any difference with the correct cable but we use difference cables for different application for good reasons. If you want the long story I'd be glad to elaborate Anyway, check it out, 4 other members already have purcased them. The first one was delivered last week. Check around and get some feedback on it. procablesnsound.com/browse_item_details.asp/Item_ID/623649Todd

I could have totally misunderstood his reply, but Dr. Z himself told me that one 8 ohm cab, for instance, and one 4 ohm cab, for instance, could be connected to the 8 and 4 ohm jacks, respectively.
I'm assuming you could do the same with one 4 and one 16 ohm cab, or an 8 and 16.
I have the email if anyone would like to read it.
However, if you have two cabs of the same impedance, a Y cable would be great. In fact, I'm thinking of getting one myself.

I would be interested in this info..you could cut & paste it to the forum for all of us to read if that is Ok with the Doc.
I have been using a 4 ohm & 8 ohm cab together with my Z28, but I have been using a Weber Z-Matcher in between the head and cabs.
