I've got a MAZ SR head and ZBEST 2x12 with the standard G12H30/Vintage 30 configuration. I've already installed 5751's in V1 & V5 to smooth the high end, but there is still a bit of a upper mid peak I'd like to smooth out. I love the sound of the G12H30, but to me the Vintage 30 has a bit of an nasally upper mid sound that I don't care for. I need a speaker to cover the upper mids and highs that is fat and warm, but with good presence, and none of that mid "honk". Would the Greenback be a good choice, or something from the Weber or Eminence lines of speakers? Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

I like the weber blue dog alnico 12 paired with a G12H30. It is a slightly louder rig due to the efficiency of the speakers, but not by much compared to the vintage 30. I have used this combo in an open back cab as well with great effect for Z amps (Ghia/Route 66 and Marshalls (which is sort of like the Ghia when dimed).....

You don't mention what Head(s) you are using with your Z-Best....but have you thought about a Celestion Greenback....or their new Heritage Greenback? I think some people like this combination in a Z-Best. That said....I put Tone Tubbies in them ;D Mark

It's a MAZ SR head with 5751's in V1 & V5 Well then....I would DEFINATELY put a couple Tubs in there! You don't say what type of music....but for Electric Blues they are REALLY nice. So warm and smooth, Alnico, and a bit less effecient....so you can crank your volume (and Cut) a bit more. Mark

Try a C-12N Jensen. I';m telling you. If you play a lot it can't be beat when worn in (even the new ones) and is a bargain at 50.00. THe P12N is good too if you like the Alnico thing, but the C-12N has great dynamics, and in my opinion one of the best speakers ever. It is really the best match with the G12 H 30 in my opinion and is great live. It is as articulate as the V30 with more warmness, but still gives you that mid-honk that isn't overbearing or fatiguing. Makes that Z sound a little fenderish too when needed.
Try it you'll like it , and for 50.00 if you dont,,,no big deal. But only if your crazy will you not.

Im really diggin the weber alinico silver 50watt light dope with the h30 in the zbest I also put in teds beam blockers sweet top end no more spikey highs ,thats the thing with the ghia or rati you only have the tone dial so if you dial to much bottom in to tame the highs the bottom gets mushy then when you get the bottom where you want it the highs might be to spikey ,all I can say is I love this set up tone dial at about 1 oclock p.s mushy bottom was not a good choice of words ,boomy you no when you start clashin with the bass player ,

I just got a ZBest cab from 4HIM, one of the forum members. I'm planning on keeping the g12h30 in there and putting a weber alnico silver bell in place of the v30. i think it will sound glorious!

I was also looking for a good 2x12" cab for my MAZ Sr. NR head. I already have a oversized 1x12" cab with a G12H I like a lot. It has a great full low end but kinda scooped mids. Sometimes I used to combine it with another (smaller) 1x12 w/ a Tonker but didn't like this combo that much - too thick and fat sounding IMO... Some days ago I got some speakers in my basement and checked 'em all in a 1x12" separately and paired in a 2x12". And the aim was to find THE perfect match for the G12H! The following speakers were in the game: EMINENCE Tonker Wizard Governor Red Fang CELESTION G12H Vintage 30 I finally ended up with the following cabs: oversized 1x12" w/ Tonker Before it was loaded with the G12H - great box but the scooped mids... the Tonker is actually IMO the best overall speaker for 1x12" (although the cab shouldn't be too small...) 2x12" w/ G12H and... ?? The Red Fang!!! I've tried several combinations: the very popular G12H/ V30 and the Wizard/ Governor (very similar) - but both are more the typical Classic Rock thang. To me the Red Fang and the G12H compliment each other perfectly (BTW: both have 30W, and almost the same loudness). The Red Fang gives the sparkling highs and great mids (not as nasty as the V30 or the Gov) and the G12H has the full low end - a great couple!! BTW: my 2x12" is NOT a Z-Best but a open back cab.
