I've owned a handful of MAZ 18s w rev. But I just picked up a new version 38 head with no reverb. Just as suspected, it sounds bigger and more full than the 18. I don't really understand why some say it doesn't have enough bass? I think it has plenty on tap. You do however lose a bit of thickness when you turn the master down to bedroom volumes. I think you lose more in the 38 than you would in the 18. But when you pull up it gets Thick! The biggest difference I can tell in the 2 is the feel. The feel of the 38 is better to me. I can really feel the tubes at my fingertips. But, keep in mind it doesn't have reverb . I'm sure that has everything to do with it. The 38 NR also seems to be a touch dirtier when cranked.
Overall they are very similar. But at the same time different enough to have both!!

Bigger and fuller than the 18...that's exactly why I originally bought my 38. Got a Ghia as well, but it doesn't get much use with the Sr. around.

You've got two of Doc's finest and most popular amps....The 38 is really an awesome amp! Hope you enjoy it, Joey!

The Maz 38 is special. I've been saying that a lot lately.
