Hi,
I have a maz 38 nr, 2009 I think, and it does produce ghost notes. This happens with the master and pre set to 12:00 high, and the bass, mid, and treble in moderate ranges.
The ghosts appear when I call my old girlfriend. Just kidding. They appear on the higher notes, around the octave on my guitar neck. I know ghost notes, and these are them.
Tubes are proven and fresh. Am I just pushing the power a bit much at these settings, or should this be a bit less spooky?
Thanks for your thoughts . . .

Thanks for your reply - I wish it was springs, but it's not. Good suggestion though. . .
Just to clarify, it's not cone cry, frets, cabinet rattle, or other stuff, just real power-supply filtering warbles when I dig in. Definitely ghost notes.
I emailed Z and he asked for circuit board photos and some amp info, so I sent pix and further descriptions. That's where the conversation seems to have stopped. I know he's a busy guy.
This amp is far more squirrely than my Remedy or my Maz 18. Both have a touch of ghosting way in the background, but my 38 is not staying nearly as tight as everyone claims it should be.

I would get cone cry from certain notes (D) when playing loud through my Maz 38 into my 1x12 loaded w/a Celestion 70th Anniversary.

Sorry I didn't get back to you swampcooler. Your gut shot looked fine to me. Yes it was a used amp and I felt maybe it had some modification. From looks of the pic, which isn't totally conclusive it looks fine.
I'm going to state this on the forum and look forward to responces. I have never had a report of ghost notes on a MAZ 38 NR.
You find ghost notes in all of your Z amps, which makes me wonder what might be in common.
Believe me it's next to imposable to diagnose some problems with just a photo, and a statement. I would need to bench the amp before I say any more.

Does you get ghost notes with ALL your guitars?

This amp is far more squirrely than my Remedy or my Maz 18. Both have a touch of ghosting way in the background, but my 38 is not staying nearly as tight as everyone claims it should be. The chance of you having 3 amps with ghost notes is astronomically odd....Look elsewhere first....

Thanks for all the replies!
I play all my amps through a variety of cabs, speakers, and impedance loads. I use a pedal board, but often enjoy the purest tone of a cable straight into the amp, and I do have several different quality cables. I have some other brands of high quality amps to use as reference and comparison.
I do live in Idaho, so maybe the voltage has trouble going north. But this happens each time I use the 38 no matter where, and as I have made numerous comparisons and used the process of elimination, it is traced directly to the 38 and nothing else in my gear. Perhaps a trip to the clinic in Ohio . . .
Thanks again for all the suggestions and thoughtful questions.

FWIW I sometimes hear the same thing with my '05 Maz Sr w/rev. As far as I can tell it only happens when playing double stops but maybe I haven't experimented enough. I don't find it offensive at all, actually I really like it!
