As great as this amp sounds with the much maligned Groove Tubes, I just gotta try some old glass. I just ordered up the below tube compliment. Should be fun..... - NOS Sylvania 6L6GC
- PI: 7025 NOS RCA gray ribbed plates
- Pre Amp: 7025 NOS Tungsol
- Rectifier: 5U4GB NOS RCA

Supposed to be here tomorrow Joel. I figure I can get 'em installed mid week. We shall see. I think I might do some quick before and after sound clips, IF I remember.....

I have found that Biasing a lil on the cool side allows you to push that badboy alot Harder,if not a pedal pusher? Bias around 34ma it will cook!!! I had RCA Blackplates in the preamp section at one time it does wonders for the smoothness in the high end. Also dont be shy, try a GZ34 Rectifier you might Like it, I had the Bias set at 30ma , I dearly miss my Galaxie, I have Plans to have a 2x10 GaL One day ;D i know its in good hands, Did you get the 4x10 Loaded?

Thanks for the tips Jamie. I really like how it drives and sounds now at 30 so I'll likely keep it there with the new glass. Yep, got the 4x10 loaded with golds and greenbacks and it sounds glorious! :-D

I finally reached into the Goodie Bag, grabbed the new glass and popped them into the Galaxie........I cant' believe how much it imporoved and aleady sweet amp. High's really smoothed out, great full harmonically rich tone. Seemed to get a little more bottom end than the GT's. Ended up biasing them at about 31Ma which is above the Doc's reccomenation but well below what the tube can do as they were only kicking at about 13watts each.... The Goodie Bag:

Thanks Lee. I also use it as my gig bag. I keep everything in it including: mic's, cables, spare batteries, strings, multimeter, tool kit, solder and soldering iron, tape, mini tool kit, etc. etc. It holds a ton of stuff. I picked the rascal up last year off epay 'cause I kinda collect old Supro gear and it matched my '65 Supro Big Star amp. I stumbled on the amp years ago; it's very cool and its pretty much in museum quality condition.

So after some time breaking in that glass, has there been much drift? Not certain if you are using a cathode reading for that 30ma with a Bias Rite unit or if you were using a shunt reading that the I believe the Doc's 27ma is based on. If it is the cathode reading, I think it would be right in the neighborhood of the suggested setting, since I've read that the shunt reading is an actual plate reading and does not include the screen current. My stock tubes still have a bright orange screening so I know they have been running on the cooler side and they've been in there since the amp was made on Halloween of 2007. That's right Halloween!
