Hey everyone!
I played a gig the other night running my Mazerati into a Marshall 4X12 with Greenbacks. It certainly had a bunch of low-end thump. I wound up dialing my tone knob back a bit to compensate. It was pretty cool, though. I usually use the internal speaker (V30) and a 1X12 extension cab with a Hellatone 30 (a pre-aged G12H30). I'm looking to try some Eminence stuff, too. Maybe a Tone Tubby, too. Okay, I need to stop.

JZ,
I played my new MAZ Sr. through my 4x12 w/ GB last night. The cab makes a world of difference. The amp really light up... It sounded so rich and thick and awesome.
On the other hand I plugged my new Maz into a couple of old crappy 1x12's that sound like doo doo.
So, IMHO, if you take a great amp and plug into a crappy cab, you'll get a great crappy tone! That is the only way I can describe it. But if you plug into a great cab, 3/4" Birch Ply, toned out, with sweek speakers (either Eminence mix or Celestoion GB mix) it should sound sweet!
It's best to just get it all to match perfectly, that is why I'm ordering a Z-Best today! No sense in messing around.

Well.....I´ve used an old 4x12" with my Route 66 on a couple og gigs now and I´m starting to think that I like the original 1x12" cab with a Weber speaker a bit more......It seems that the amp looses a bit of its distinctive sound when I´m using a 4x12"....... Maybe a 2x12" and the original cab at the same time ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Route 66 Dr. Z cab 1x12" Weber speaker Vox ´64 2x12" Vox ´65 Supreme 4x12" Ruby Tube 2x12" Marshall 4x12" - Vintgae 30 ´63 tele

Right now with my Ghia I'm stacking a Z-best horizontally on top of my 2x12 EarCandy cab. I've never played through a Marshall 4x12 that sounds anywhere CLOSE to this good IMO, and the best part is that it's modular, so I can take either cab, or both cabs.
The speakers are a 75hz Scumback and a 55hz Scumback (they're H-magnet types) in the EarCandy, and the standard V30/H30 in the Z-best... It's kind of an odd speaker combination with that single V30 thrown in there, but just having that one V30 adds that nice greasy, vocal, cutting midrange character of the V30 into the mix, without being TOO much of that...
The different sizes of the two cabs contributes well for a very HUGE sound as well. They're both the same width when stacked horizontally, but the EarCandy cab is deeper and shorter than the Z-Best. Tight and punchy and focused, but still room filling... that might be just because it's pretty d**n loud and movin' quite a bit of air though.
Just an alternative to the usual 4x12 cab... Franzen, this might be your solution to have the hugeness of a 4x12, but with more distinction... I think the two separate cabs helps to make it bigger than any 4x12 I've ever heard, yet more articulate all at the same time... Probably has to do with both the different dimensions of the two cabs, and the fact that it's two pairs of speakers in separate spaces of air, as opposed to 4 speakers all in the same air space.

Franzen, I had a Route and a Z Best ...awesome rig..but the one time I gigged it through a Z 1X12/V-30 was my favorite gig with the route. But I like all my Z heads through that cab ?!?!
I had a Marshall 4X12 Classic with GB's and the Z Best (the one mentioned above in G'OlPeachPhan's post as We just swapped) Killed the Marshall to my ears, FWIW
With the Route 66, Ghia or the Maz Jr NR heads.
