I caught The Bluesbreakers at the Coach House in San Juan on August 26th. Buddy was outstanding! If you haven't seen him play its a "must do". I was on the opposite side so I couldn't make out the Dr. Z amp, but I think it was a Carmen Ghia played through a Marshall slant cabinet. If this was indeed the Ghia, dang......for 18 watts it can get loud. Tone was really great and Buddy's playing is silky smooth.
It's time to buy more Mayal CD's and steal some licks!

Hi Bud
Did you have a good time jamming with Larry Coryell? Did he play any wholetone scales with 16th notes? ;^) Did he mention anything about FK?
Still waiting my Lentz. Has billyguitar got his one yet?

Lentz is still under construction. I ordered July 19 so I'm approaching 2 months and I'm prepared to go three with no worries. The last thing I want is to push or rush them at all. Tapsa: How long ago did you order? You're getting an HSL right?

ha I said nothing about meeting the man, although sharing a meatball sub with The Man would be incredible. I just want to see the man with my own two eyes.

I just want to jump in and note I was in Fort Worth for a family celebration this past weekend. I live in upstate NY, so it's a rare event for me to be in Texas. Needless to say, the ice storm extended my stay. On Monday night, my brother was driving me, (and my sister), back to the hotel and he detoured over to a club called Ovation. He said "let's just see if there's any music..." We walked in and lo and behold, there was no music, but there was BW packing up gear!!! We spoke for a couple of minutes, and I was so sorry that I missed the show. But it was great to shake hands and extend appreciation for the music played & the participation in this forum. I must say, "thanks for being so accessible and friendly to your fans, it was great meeting you." And I must also apologize for "ignoring" the rest of the band--it's just that the entire moment caught me by surprise!

Sorry we missed you guys and gals, and THANKS for stopping in. You know, when we get a half inch of snow and ice down here the schools all close and everybody that can stay home does ;^) Watch for us this summer on the road!

Hi Strato, sorry-must have missed this post while I was busy being an alligator--i.e., all mouth and no ears. We have a regular Monday night gig (as well as a few Saturday nights, check schedule) at Ovation in Ft Worth on Camp Bowie Blvd www.ovationrestaurant.com usually from about 8:45 'til about 11:15 pm, GREAT food and fine folks. Mike Gage on drums, Wayne Six on bass and Mouse Mayes on guitar and vocals have a great trio without me, but when I'm off the road and we can make it work we get together as often as possible. I have a few other gigs around town, PM me when you're gonna be out runnin' around and I'll get back to you. Billy, you know I'm MY OWN mgr, hanger-on, bodyguard and.....uhh, err.. groupie... Strato, go ahead and brang that meatball sub witcha ;^) (but not to Ovation, Keith the chef would NOT be amused!)

Thanks for the help but shouldn't this be a new thread started rather than a new subject in a 40 mile long thread?

Well, we're playin', can't vouch for how great it is! If we get there on time, do the gig and get paid, its a success. Just played a fundraiser for KNON at Poor David's in Big D, next time I find myself headed that way I'll PM ya.

Harry Aw Harry, I'm off topic half the time, if not 3/4. I have a very nice Lentz 'S' style in alder that I like and have played very much. Very resonant and really light, great for 'guitar shoulder'. The ash bodied Lentz HSL is also light and resonant, I believe it all comes down to starting with a select piece of wood. All I know is that most the guitars on the wall at Guitar Sinner don't feel as 'right' to me regardless of price!

Buddy ....
Just a heads up.
When you are out here later this month I am dragging along Carl Verheyen to finally get the two of you in the same place at the same time.
Heck ... if you want him to sit in for a song or two with you I can probably talk him into that and even supply another amp if you need it.
If you want to go over to Fretted Americana again like we did last time before the show we can do that too. It turns out that I already knew the owner for years but did not know that was his store when we went there! Now I work with him a lot and do their ampwork.

Thank you too much Buddy! Sounds like there really isn't a big difference other than a bit more mids in the alder versus more high end sparkle and low end thump in the ash.

I can see that finger stickin' up all the way over here on the east side! So when do we get 'chicken fried' again, Dave? Guess its my turn to buy...(dang it!) Yep, Squeally, I guess it is a little loud...but it sounds so ...GOOD! (he sez, sitting in front of the 'puter w/ 2 ears a' ringin') Just don't aim it at the sound guy and be sure to block the back or use your Zbest so the drummer don't lose his, uhh...mind...if EVER he DID have one in the first place. Y'all already know this, but what has three legs and a d#@k on it? A DRUM THRONE! We should get a Babe's Chicken thing goin' one Saturday afternoon. We should call Jerry Amalfitano too. I'll buy this time.

Buddy .... Just a heads up .... David Brass (Fretted Americana) wants you to drop by the shop if you get in early enough. It was his daughter that you and I met last time you were here by the way. And ... he, his family, and others will be at the show. And ... Carl will be at the show and we are trying to all meet someplace before the show. Maybe meet at the venue or at David's guitar extraviganza spot. If you have a pocket full-o-cash and want to pay for round trip airfare from Stockholm Sweden to Los Angeles I can probably get Anna Ericson (the gal in my current icon) to come out for the weekend. Maybe if Ashley is not working she can come too. Natalie gets really mad at me sometimes when I take some of the models to a show but this time I could just blame you

Hi Mr Whittington Sir! I just wanted to say hello, and I think you are definately the BEST blues guitarist in the World. Period. Whilst the Dr Z does help, wouldn't you have said 90% of the tone comes from the player? With that in mind, is there any advice you would give me, to improve my playing? Also, I am looking at getting a Dr Z at some time, for home use. WHich would you recommend? Thanks a lot Buddy.
