Buddy,
My tone quest is complete. I've had my MAZ 38 combo for about a week and I am beside myself with the tone this amp has. Unbelievable. All I can say is....why doesn't everyone have one? Thanks for "Blues for the Lost Days" which sent me direclty to the Z!
Regards, Jeff

Well Sky, I hope Z sells a ton of 'em, but I'm hopin' EVERYBODY don't get one;^) Don't mention it Jeff, glad to be of service. I've been very fortunate to play w/ John and the guys for 12 years now and its been a real blessing and learning experience. The tune 'Blues for the Lost Days' was my '63 mutt strat (2 Duncan SSL-1's, the original neck pickup and a GREAT neck built and installed by the incredible Scott Lentz) thru the MAZ-38 Studio Deluxe 1X12 combo, my FIRST (and still very active!) Z amp.. Lefty, your question is the same as mine, I'd love to do an album project but its gotta be right. hope I don't use up my opportunity window before I can come up wit da goods! Ya know, ol' Bluzsteel is way ahead of me on that front, makin' great records and writin' cool tunes in the comfort of his own home;^) Nick, I tried to get a little clinic/gig together last time my bud Ian Robinson from around Colchester was kind enough to waste his petrol drivin' me out to Braintree to see Derek and the guys at Peach, but we didn't have time to make it happen. (We did take the train to Milton Keynes and met Jim Marshall though, what a great day and factory tour. ALMOST as cool as touring the Z lab!) The gig at the 100 Club in April is the very last date of a tour that starts in Munich around the first of March. We come home the day after, so probably won't be able to get to Peach until the fall of '06, when according to John, we will do a bunch of UK dates. But I would love to come hang with y'all for a day or two and pick a little. OK, off the soap box now....

Buddy,
You are all over Europe for the next bit .... Carl Verheyen is currently in Italy and I hope to find some way to get the two of you together at some point this year if possible just so the two of you can get together as I think some interesting things could develop.
If you get back to So Cal at some point I have a bit of a stash of stuff I have been putting together for your MAZ 38s as a side note.
Have a great tour! I don't know how you are going to make it through March! Very aggressive schedule to say the least!

Hi Buddy, "Blues For The Lost Days" hits me on so many levels. It's such a great song, I listen to it all the time. The lyrics could be a page out of my life too and the playing, LORDY! Let's just say a higher power led you to those notes. The only way that I've figured I'll ever learn to play it is to have an extra finger surgically attached to my left hand! Just wanted you to know how much I appreciate and admire your playing and what a privilege it is to be able read your thoughts about things here. Take Care, Your friend and fellow Icky Twerp Fan Club cohort, Bluzpower

"Leave it on Eleven"...Icky rules! My kids have seen some of the footage from Slambang Theater and just don't get it. I tell 'em, It's ALL there WAS back then! Local TV done on a shoestring w/ studio employees doubling as 'actors' Everytime I see a guy on a plane watchin' a Stooges dvd (and it happens quite often...) I wonder if he grew up in FW/D. Myles, thanks for thinkin' of me. We should be out that way in May, Lord willin' and the creek don't rise. I'd love to get out to one of Carl's gigs. I've heard a few things and VG did a real good story on him a while back.

Ok, this may be one of the ultimate " are you an old Fort Worth boy" questions. Anybody remember Fireman Bill and Sparky?
Hey Bluzsteel, I remember being scared to death watching "Nightmare". Of course it didn't help when I had to go to the bathroom and my cousin would say that The Mummy was waiting for me in the hall!

Dang, Bluzpower,I don't remember Fireman Bill! Of course, growing up in Richland Hills and Hurst, Bluzsteel would say I ain't technically a Fort Worth boy anyway, or that I'm an East side boy (I call 'Eastside' Lancaster, Poly, Meadowbrook, Eastern Hills High School territory, around there.) Was he on pre-KXAS Channel 5 WBAP? I have a vague memory......sorry I missed that, Zane. Betcha couldn't get him to come to a school and 'set stuff on fire' now!

Hey Buddy - I've got a question for you.....I bought a Brown Deluxe a few years ago from a guy in Tejas. He says it used to be yours. It's got a hole in the grille cloth about 1/4" in diameter. Any chance it's yours?
Besides that, I've seen you with Mayall a few times in So Cal starting back in the late 80's (Ventura Theater). You're the reason I have Z amps....seems to be a recurring story, doesn't it? Take care.

Hi Cliff, I've never owned a brown deluxe, but I did have one around for awhile that belonged to my old bandmate Rex Mauney. There wasn't a speaker in it when it came my way, I put one of questionable parentage in from a Twin I bought that had the wrong speakers in it, and Rex sold it shortly thereafter. Nice little amp, supposedly 'Terrible Ted' used one of those on 'Cat Scratch Fever' w/ his Byrdland. The Ventura Theater is a fun gig, wish we could play around there (or anywhere else for that matter;^) more often. Come say Hi next time.

Maybe you've mentioned it somewhere but if so I missed it. How do you travel with your guitars? Hey, Billy--don't know how I missed this way back when.. I just gave up and started checking my guitar in an SKB style case INSIDE an ATA approved flight case. They STILL managed to gouge the finish on my brand new Lentz HSL on this last trip overseas by not latching the inside case after they 'inspected' it and it flew all the way to Munich--2 days late--with the guitar banging around inside the roadcase. ( INSPECTING IT? for WHAT? LEAVE IT ALONE, ITS ONLY A DANG GUITAR, TSA SLACKERS! Pick on the old ladies with the crochet' needles, maybe they're gonna knit an 'afghan' or something....) Our bassist Hank still flies out of LAX w/ his bass in a gig bag, but as of Oct 1 last year, no more guitars get past security at DFW airport. For 12 years I carried on 1 guitar on every flight I was ever on except for one Delta and one America West flight. (if I was stranded in the desert and could have my choice of a Delta flight attendant or a camel to accompany me, I'd choose the flight attendant as they retain water longer)

You got it goin' on brother! I'm laughin' here! I don't fly very often with a guitar. The last time I did LAX went thru it and freaked me out. One other time I took the neck off and carried it in my suitcase. I've heard that's what Bill Kirchen does. He has those stainless steel threaded inserts that Vintique sells and just pops the neck off every time. Probably the best idea. A related story. It's been about 10 years ago or more but a friend of mine that buys and sells guitars flew up to Chicago to buy an original Explorer. I forget, it may have been another time when he bought a Flying V. Anyway, whichever it was, he put it in a trash bag and put it in the overhead on the plane! Pre 9/11 of course.

Me and Hank have actually cussed and discussed adding 'one electric 6 string guitar and one electric 5 string bass in good working order w/ new strings' to John's equipment rider so we could just travel 'commando'. We would more than likely have to play the show on some real dogs (According to Joe, our drummer (who uses a different basic kit every night, totally at the mercy of the promoter or buyer)... but I see guys in Europe on festivals do it all the time. Just show up, no git-tar, no amp, 1 teeshirt, no deoderant;^).... I want the guy with the laptop/carryon/rollaboard/'handbag' to have to check his stuff if I have to check mine, mine usually takes up less room than his anyway.

Hey BW, how come you guys don't use an international courier / shipper and pre-ship all your gear? I know a company right down there in the Houston area where thats all they do. I guess I never thought about how professional bands got all their gear around. I'd hate to be the guy who has to pack up Neil Peart's (of Rush) drumkit every night...

My brother,my cousin ,& I went to see "Alice Cooper " at the "Ector County Colliseum" in Odessa...musta been about 16...my brother ,& I were the only ones beside the band that had really long hair, as soon as we walked in some roadie cat came up to us ,said they were short handed,& needed some people to help "break down" after the show ...he gave us all "backstage passes"....well we barely got to some seats, & we had some chicks all over us...don't know why we didn't go straight backstage...anyway after the show we were trying to help...that roadie dude came up ,& just started raising heel cause we didn't know what to do...so after a few minutes of that we ended our "roadie carreer" with the a raise finger, & a few choise words ;^)
