(Disclaimer: Remember, an 'ex-spurt' is just a drip under pressure...) My UK pal Graham Rowley sent me this clip from the January 2012 'Guitarist' mag That's my ol' faithful Kurt-built 220v Senior head.

Interesting article...It's good to see a ole Texas boy showing sharing his gear experience. I have to admit your tone is to die for. So, thanks for posting it!
By the way...There was a time I would buy John Mayall albums to hear the music, copy the licks, and study what gear his band was using in the photos. Sometimes, I would find out too much: Like Mayall's 9-string guitar and that he lived in a treehouse...LOL!

Hey BW, I got turned on to your music through this site, and would like to know the best place to pick up your cd,s, would like to have the whole body of work. By "best place, i mean where it would put the most $ in YOUR pocket. Would really like to have some autographed cd's, if possible. Please advise. Thanks, Dwight

Got those cd's, and must say they are some of the most refreshing stuff i have heard in quite awhile, very impressive writing/playing/production. Now the question: How did you get that beautiful rhythm tone on cuts 1,4, and 6 on Six String? Is that doable with your live rig, or is it Studio Voodoo? Was that done with the Strat, or 335? I have quite a bit of gear piled up around here trying to get that tone...Help a Brother, and i will keep buying those cd's, and you can crash at my place. Thanks, Dwight

BW, when you play a gig with your Ghia, where are you normally running the tone and volume controls?
I apologize if this has been covered already. I did search for anything pertaining to this question, but didn't find any info.

Hello Buddy, I am a big fan from Athens Greece,my name is Akis and i have a couple of questions for you regarding tone and discography. About tone ,how do you deal with the hum noise when you use your stratocaster? Also do you use a certain pickup position on your strat more often than others or you are using all of them an equal amount? For example on one youtube clip where you are playing "Just got back from baby's" at Cafe Frederiksberg in Aalborg, Denmark - 1st November 2012, i can't really understand in what position you are from watching it,but it sounds like a middle pickup to me,in fact most of the you tube videos with the stratocaster sound like middle position to me except a couple where i'm hearing bridge and another where i'm hearing the in between bridge-middle,although i can't remember the songs right now. Am i on the right track or way off? About discography, it seems that i cannot find all your personal albums online, can i buy direct from you? Were there, ever, any vinyl pressings of those albums? Thank you for your time and for the music and the inspiration you have given me and i hope to catch you and your band live if you ever come to Greece for a concert,or if i manage to come to whatever country you might be touring in the near future. Cheers

Hi Akis, and thanks for getting in touch! It really depends on the venue, and how 'bad' the Radio Frequency Interference or Electro Magnetic Interference is in that particular environment, if it is really noisy I tend to play more in positions 2 and four, where the reverse-wound reverse-polarity middle pickup is paired with either the neck or the bridge pickup, you know what I mean I'm sure. Sometimes you just have to live with it, but it's difficult in a really challenging room. I use all 5 positions on the switch but mostly the middle, the 2 'out of phase' positions for lack of a better term, or the neck the most. I have the back tone control wired up to the bridge pickup so I can roll off a little 'ice-pickyness', which helps quite a bit.My (borrowed) amp on the Cafe Frederiksberg gig was a Dr Z Carmen Ghia into a small 2X10 cabinet, and if memory serves I had an AnalogMan King of Tone on the yellow channel to give me a little boost on the input. Neither my 'Buddy Whittington' or 'Six String Svengali' CD's have been issued on vinyl, although the first John Mayall album I was on, 'Spinning Coin' was when it was first released. I am fortunate to have played gigs in Athens, Thessaloniki, Macedonia with Mr Mayall during my tenure as a Bluesbreaker, and I would love to visit again someday!

Hi, I have recently bought a 2008 Galaxie ( old model with prescence control) -somebody had installed an effects loop in the amp which was noisy and not something I need. I have removed it and the amp works, but it is only putting out around 25 watts on pentode.I would dearly love to get a wiring diagram/schematic for this amp,but am having a really tough time getting one-Dr.Z doesnt even respond to my emails and I cant find anything online-I know I can send the amp to Dr.Z , but I live in British Columbia and our dollar is tanking and the costs would be exorbitant--any help would be greatly appreciated, best, Don.

hmmm.... Over two years since anyone asked BW a question.
Hey Buddy...
what's for dinner? was Pagey really a Satanist or did he just do it to get chicks?
also... I have a dozen questions about John Mayall but we'll skip those for now.
what's the root of the "O" chord in F#minor? where's the bridge? cross-cut saw or double-bladed axe?

Mike is pointing you in the right direction. If I were betting I'd say rectifier.

With some preamp tubes it's next to impossible to see the heater filaments to see if they are working. EH-12AX7LPS's come to mind if I recall and that's a popular tube for Z amp phase inverters. The only other preamp tube in that amp is the EF86. The heaters for all the tubes, except the rectifier, run off the same 6.3 volt tap from the transformer.
In a very dark room look closely at the preamp tubes, especially V1, to see if they are glowing. If so, then I agree, it's the rectifier.
And punctuation helps understanding when troubleshooting.

Hi there. I had a question about vac. Everyone keeps asking if my amp is a 240v (I live in Australia). On the back of my amp, where the power cord goes in, it says 120v. But the fuse next to it says 250vac. So is my amp a 120v or 250v? I'm confused. Not sure Buddy (Whittington, Texas bluesman extraordinaire) can answer this one. Technical questions such as this can be posed directly in the Amp Questions / Troubleshooting section, of which "Ask Buddy" is a subsection, or you can send an email to repairs@drzamps.com. The shop responds pretty quickly and you know you'll get the right information.

Hello!
I hope you're doing great! I have a Marshall amp that it's in need of an expert to look at and it looks like you guys are the closest experts in the area I live. Would the repair shop at Z-amps take a look at it?
Thank you in advance!

Would the repair shop at Z-amps take a look at it? Thank you in advance! Hi Dr Z amps is a manufacturer of it's own high quality amps. It can service it's own amps, if required, but is not an amp service centre, per se. I'm pretty sure the Z shop does not service other brands if for no other reason that the facility is always extremely busy trying to keep up with the demand of building and selling it's own amps.
