Buddy,
thank you for the response. One more for you if don't mind.
I sold off some of my guitars and am playing a Strat 100% of the time now. With that in mind, if you were in my shoes, would you go with a Ghia 1x12 combo or a Maz Jr 1x12 combo?
Thanks a lot,
Matt
EDIT: just talked to someone at Dr Z on the telephone. What he had to say has me leaning HEAVILY toward the MAZ NR in a 1x12 combo. More versatile, louder, and can get gainier.

never tried a ghia combo, always had a head and it has served me well on many occasions, with several speaker configs. I have never owned a MAZ Jr, although I have borrowed heavily (Thanks Mark and Scotty!) I'd prefer reverb in a MAZ Jr head, but that's just me. Don't need a lot of gain for an all-around gig amp, more important for me to get a presentable clean sound that'll grow some hair when ya goose it. Good luck!

Most fun Strat amp I've ever played. The only question is what speaker you'll get in it. I love the G12H30, but the Blue is quite nice as well, depending on what you're looking for.

I know this is BW's patch, but I wouldn't have thought you'd often get the chance to crank the ghia how Bud does, it sounds incredible mind, but its SERIOUSLY loud! Forget the 18 watt rating! With that in mind, I'd plump for the Maz.

Had the opportunity to play a Ghia. Have to agree with you Bluesprof--sounded good, but unrealistic on the volume. Didn't get to play a Maz, but at least I know about the Ghia now.
I was halfway assuming after I played it that I would want to spring for the MAZ 38 since I wasn't 100% sure if 18 watts was gonna be enough. BOY WAS I WRONG haha...The guy at DR Z said the Maz 18 will be louder than the Ghia overall...and I'll tell ya, the Ghia was a pretty loud mutha..with that in mind, i think i'll be more than fine with the 18.
Now i just need to decide if i want the reverb or not. Buddy, what you said made a lot of sense. if i went with the verb, i could always get myself an overdrive box anyway. Some reverb would be nice..just enough to give it a little space.

Wide array of tones and use the BL to control the actual output volume.

Hey Buddy,
Which amps do you like to play the 335 through. Know you've used the KT45, but which are your favorites and why? And is the 335 just an occasional/ blue moon thing for you compared to strats and teles?
Been listening to tunes from palace of the king lately.
I'm a sucker for details so don't hold back if you have something to say.
Always with highest regards,
Tim

Hey Buddy,
How'd the gig at the Grey Horse in Kingston go? I was gutted I couldn't get there, but you're back in UK in Oct I see, and I'll be booking tickets for Cranleigh as soon as ;D
LOVE that YouTube of Shaky Ground with the Bluesbreakers using the '52 tele and the Ghia - what a spanking sound! Just working my new Ghia to get the same tone, if I can ;D
Stay safe
Pete ;D

Hi Tim, Hi Pete... My default amp has always been MAZ Senior, but as of late I've enjoyed the 335 thru the Remedy/Zbest on the last Italian tour (Thanks to Andrea at 440hz!) and John Priest at Peach Music in the UK has been most helpful supplying me w/ an EZG50/4X10 that I played my Lentz 'S' style through on the Gary Moore dates we did last year. Also have had a great time w/ a MAZ Jr Reverb lately, just right for lot of the gigs locally, and if I had a 220 version, might try it overseas too. 335 sounds great through all of 'em, really enjoy the semi-hollow sounds and I would play it a lot more if it wasn't like draggin' an outboard Merc up and down flights of stairs in that big ol' case day and night. Not as easy to string as a strat or tele either! Takes me about twice as long, and I string whatever one I have on tour w/ me every other night, sometimes every night depending on the sweat factor. I also play the Lentz guitars regularly as Scott and Co have been instrumental (ooh! sorry) in the bolt-on solidbody dep't. Pete, we had a large time at The Grey Horse, it just sorta popped up one day when thepromoter flaked on the show we had booked and advertised at Fleetwood. I can't understand why these guys pull the plug on the gig a week out even if ticket sales are not up to par, when they know they'll have to pay us most of the fee anyway. i thought I'd try my ghia at the Grey Horse thru the usual 1x12 Celestion G12H-100 (which is rubbing a little these days, time fer a new 'un soon and I think I'll try the Gold or the 65) That small room was pretty crowded and seemed like my tone was gettin' a little lost in there, so I plugged the Senior in on the second set. That's richeray's old tele and Ghia on Shaky Ground, man I enjoyed fondling that one! The venue was The Turning Point in Piermont, New York, a 2 story house that they turn the audience between shows...very small, intimate and fonnnkeee. Slammin' Salmon dinners by Mr McAvoy there too, if you can talk him out of the pasta on the 'band' menu. ;^) Can't wait to play my tunes there as soon as I can get him to book me!

Hey buddy how about giving me your setings and just leave it on your amp then I won't have to change a thing.I'll play it the way you left it.I know this is pushing but while you are riding and wondering what to do stop in Athen,Ga and play a bit. Then you can leave that amp.I already got it figured out.

Never get my head round promoters and their thinking - or lack of! Necessary evil I guess, but they're are far too many "rock star wannabes" who can't play, but "promote" instead just to be in the scene, but can't do that either! (sorry all you real promoters out there - just giving my observations) Here's hoping the Oct gigs over here go smooth as honey - looking forward to it already Pete ;D

hi bud,, took your advice and bought a few sets of the d'addario jazz 11's, man that 3rd string is a .21 and is a real tough one, i had to drop a whole step tuning to work with the em, they make my fingertips black, i have other strings that dont do that, did i get a bad set,or do your d'addarios make your fingertips black? i have other brand strings that dont do that.

I play almost exclusively D'addarios and yes, they make my fingers (and glow-in-the-dark V Picks) black. I still think they're the best. I do use Ernie Ball's sometimes too and they don't make my fingers black.

I have so many questions about the new album, Six String Svengali. I'll limit myself to just two: What was the recording medium and how did you achieve the "keyboard" effects? Thank you. Mark BTW I LOVE the album.

Thanks Mark! Recorded w/ Nuendo, wish I knew all the particulars! Plugged into a Leslie 147 for the 'organ-ic' stuff.

Thanks, Bud. I was hoping the 'leslie' was a pedal or software thingie (something within my reach). No such luck. Figgers you'd go for the real deal. My Dad LOVES the album. ADDENDUM: I'm sorry to say this but as great as the writing is (music and lyrics), as fine as the vocals are (harmonies!), excellent as the album sounds, I expect most people are going to be blown away by the guitar playing! I mean, dang, Bud. World Class, 'out a doubt!

Not to change the subject, but I forgot several questions at Zfest (so much going on I darn near forgot how to get home). Probably covered several times before, but with apologies here goes...do you generally use the hi or lo input on the Maz 38? Thanks Buddy!

Mr. Whittington-
if this is too formal please accept my apologies... just not on first name basis... YET...
i was introducing a friend of mine to your new album and he was blown away by so many aspects of the album... the lyrical writing, the composition and structure of the songs and the production of the album as a whole. it created a long discussion about the tone and one we couldn't quite figure out was your tape delay echo on some of the songs and what you used to achieve that delay... my bet was it was an echoplex tape delay and well... my buddy was just floored and couldn't think of anything other than "GREAT TONE"
so my question is... what was used to achieve the delay effects?
Peter

High Input always, Dave! walkerdata: Peter: any delays were added at the console, and were of the 'plug-in' variety, I like the ol' 'plex but never have owned one.

Buddy,
I got Six String Svengali and it's fantastic! We need a break down on the guitars and amps used. What did you use for the rhythm tracks on "Back When the Beano was Boss"? Also, my wife and I just cracked up when we heard "I had to go and see Alice".
