OK I realize that there is a huge difference in wattage between these two amps, but I'm wondering how similar they might be?
Thing is, I want to get another Z. The Route 66 was ALMOST perfect for me. What would have made it perfect? If it was a little less thick/had a little more sparkle/chime...and if it didn't flub out in the bottom end when running fuzz (not that it was REALLY bad with fuzz, but it wasn't great).
On paper, both the M12 and the KT45 seem to fit the bill....same tone stack, brighter tubes, more headroom for fuzz...hence why I'm torn between these two.
Ideally, I think the lower wattage of the M12 would be better. On the flip side of the coin though, every lower wattage amp I've played just doesn't have the oomph that a higher wattage amp has, even when played at low volumes. There's just something about the big iron that thumps you in the chest...I like it.
I also have to consider that every demo I listen to of the KT just wow's me...where the M12 is just kinda meh. But its really hard to judge an amp on youtube alone and I dont place much stock in it.
So, thoughts?

I have an M12, never played a KT45. I can tell you that i do utilize a Skreddy Lunar Module fuzz often and have no issues whatsoever with it flubbing out. The amp can definitely be bright, as you would expect with El84's. Also, i run the M12 through a Port City 1x12 closed back/front ported cab loaded with a gold. The gold definitely offers some chime and the cab offers a good low end. So in combination, this rig works quite well for me.
As for "oomph", the M12 has that in spades when you get the volume up past noon on the dial. For me the M12 is the perfect gigging amp.

Depending on your volume needs, the Z-28 may be a good bet for you.
With the bigger 6V6S and a 5AR4 recto, you have big head room and clear, bell-like highs.
I run a lot of fuzz, incl. some super big Muffs and have never had any low end flab.

Thanks for your thoughts guys. Im still pretty torn...I think Ive made a decision, then change my mind, then flip back...
I've listened to a LOT of demo's of the M12...it sounds like it might work, but it definitely needs some beefier speakers. Most demos are with a 1x10 and it sounds kind of anaemic, I bet with a z-best the low end would be there.
I dunno, the KT sounds KILLER in every demo I here so its a tough call. Might just be too much amp for me though.

M12 and ZBest is killer. You will need an attenuator to tame the volume/loudness if you're going with KT45 and ZBest. Either amp should be spectacular.
