I was watching Letterman and the musical guest was "Death Cab for Cutie". Now I have never heard of them but I did notice some Z's in the background. So I went to there site to see what they were using..
-Dr. Z MAZ-18 Jr. 1x12 w/Reverb
-Dr. Z Route 66 Head
-Dr. Z MAZ 38 Sr. Head
-Dr. Z 2x12 Speaker Cab
Very cool to see Z's on T.V.

Probably not your style, sonic, but they're right up my alley. I just happened to see that segment, too, which I really enjoyed. It was cool to see that Jr. and the Route 66 on the tube.

I finally had a chance to sit down and watch the "Elvis Costello and Friends" concert that aired last week on Vh1's Decades Rock Live segment. Friends included Death Cab for Cutie who were up first with EC. Caught a lot of good shots of a Z combo situated behind guitarist/vocalist Ben Gibbard. Had to pause it a couple of times and call the family in to check out the Z on tv!

I had the Austin City Limits with them on my Tivo for a few months, lots of great Z-tones but when my Tivo fried I lost everything I had saved. In that performance the lead player and the singer had 2 Z amps each, I can't remember the models though.

Great Z tones for sure but they also have one of the best modern lyricists I've heard. It's nice to hear a band with something original to say. Open the liner notes and just read...you don't even need the music (though the music is great).

I love this band, especially the record Plans and the Postal Service side project. Didn't know they used Zs, but I love the sound of Plans. Amazing guitar tones...the guitarist Chris Walla engineers the records and does a great job. Loves the Chandler TG-2 mic pres on guitars...

The last time I saw them live, they were using G&L ASAT Specials through the various Z's.
Great combination.

While I don't listen to their music that often, I really dig their sound. They get some great tone, and have a nice style.

not sure how many Zs were used on the new cd.. they both are just using Z cabs, and various heads.

they used a Dr. Z 2x10, a Tremolux head, an Acme amplifier, and some "pawnshop" cabs on the new album.
no Z's.
info from Death Cab in EQ magazine

I just caught Death Cab in Chicago at Pritzker Pavillion last tues. Great shows and their Z's sounded phenomenal and I'm not just saying that 'cause I'm a big Z fan. Their guitars which really lean towards the clean side of things, sounded rich, full and really resonated throughout Pritzker, which has great acoustics and sound system for an outdoor venue. It was a big sold out show too, hottest tic in town last week.

The EZG sounds really nice with the 4x10! Your RT66 sounds good!
When you pick up your stuff will your Z collection be complete or what?! At least until next year ;-)

Just saw Death Cab last night on Austin City Limits, might have been an older show but plenty of Z's on the stage.

Apologies for bumping up an old thread, but had something relative.
It was Death Cab that got me on my hunt/savings plan for a Z. Listened to 'em for quite some time, but saw them for the first time about 5, 6 years ago. I remember talking to my brother next to me all about the sound. "That" sound. Had to look up the amps with that mysterious Z logo on them. Glad I did!
Though it wasn't BP, or BW (or any other host of famous tone monsters) that got me into the love of the Z, I'm glad through this forum I've gotten to see/hear so many more styles accomplished so perfectly.
Thanks DCFC for turning me on to such a great thing.
