So with a Route 66 and a Z28 that I really love, it was probably just a matter of time before the M12 hit me. Same tone stack... different tubes and even lower wattage.
I'm only a couple of hours in, but this little amp rocks... with just a clean boost or mild overdrive it has surprising crunch. Loving it with the tele and especially the lp junior. It's probably the biggest sounding little amp I've played.
Have yet to decide on a speaker... but it sounds killer with the Altec 417 (my current fav with the R66). I'm thinking it will settle into the 1x10 cab - will be auditioning a gold, a TT alnico, and a red fang.
This will probably pair with my princeton NR to form a low wattage AB gigging rig... one very clean, the other a bit dirty with a mid hump.

^ If yer gonna try a TT alnico 10", maybe give the new "Low Watt" Alnico speaker a try. I hear they're quite popular and sellin' like hotcakes. (It's also what what I intend to try, if I ever get my hands on that M12 1×10 combo that I've been longing for.)

Hey smolder,
If you don't mind, I'd love to get your take on a comparison between the Red Fang and the TT Alnico. Thanks!

.....With my Z Wreck to be delivered today, I'm still thinking about the M12. And as much as I've always said that one 10" speaker is never enough for me, been thinking about the 1-10 M12 at my small end too. Jake, remember I ordered a 1-10 Ghia from you with the red fang. I put about 60-80 hours on that speaker and it was ok, but I put a broken in TT AlNiCo in an it was much smoother. A little better low end and not quite as....tubby...lol. Ain't that something, a Tone Tubby not sounding as tubby and the Red Fang. ;D The TT still had plenty of highend sparkle and just a more balanced tone to my ears. The RF was to middy and for lack of a better word, brash... My .$02 Look for an order of the 'markT" signature M12 coming soon.

Hey smolder, If you don't mind, I'd love to get your take on a comparison between the Red Fang and the TT Alnico. Thanks! Yep... I'll give you the whole set up. I was testing the three with a dual P90 50's tribute Les Paul with Lollar 10% Low Winds. The red fang was in the 10" Z cab. The Gold and the TT were in the 2x10 Z cab. ALl three speakers are well broken in with 30 plus hours on them. First the Gold. Of course it sounded great... bright, but still with low end and wonderful clarity. Second, I went to the red fang. It was louder, more full bodied. I played it for 20-25 minutes and noticed that the edgy distortion was more on the high end. I then switched to the TT. The mid hump is still there in comparison to the gold, but not as 'in the way' as the RF. Also... the speaker break up seamed to be more rooted in the mids... with the highs and the low end being more clear. I'll say that while I used many more words to describe the difference between the RF and the TT, the difference is small. These two sound much more similar than either to the Gold. So as it stands now the rock and roll line up is: Route 66 with an Avatar vintage cab and a single Altec 417b 12" Z28 combo with 2x10 red fangs M12 combo 1x10 TT Alnico The clean amps are all fenders with JBL's

So, I'm gonna assume y'all (markT and smolder) are talking about the red alnico TT 10-in. speaker..? (The TT's are definitely nice speakers. I've got the red alnico 12-in. and have been lovin' it since it arrived.)

Congrats! The TT Alnico 12" was killer in my 1x12 combo too, second only to the WGS Blackhawk HP Alnico, but by only a small margin.

Gig report...
Acoustic through soundboard... bass through mesa... box drum kit... and me, the LP with P90's through the M12 10" combo with a TT alnico. Killer... Had the airbrake on 2 clicks... Volume at noon, Bass at noon, Treble at 3 0'clock. Reverb from Mr Springy... pushed it with a Klone and on occasion a tube screamer... really performed well. I'm very pleased... this is the amp for this gig.
