Well I took the M12 out Friday night; Her maiden voyage for outside venues. Bless her heart, she held pretty darn well with my really loud band. Our drummer this night (a stand-in) was beating the snot outta those skins, and my guitar-mate was playing my 30 watt 5F4 Tweed, and had it cranked wide open all night. There were some times where I needed a tad more oomph and I had to step on a boost. I took the Monza head just in case I needed more volume, but I never turned it on. Probably should have done so on the last two tunes where we always crank up even more..... Would I do it again? Not with this particular drummer, unless I knew we were gonna play at a decent volume. We were really very loud....it was even uncomfortable for me; and I like to play loud..... So, basically I think the M12 can hang in almost any situation short of a High Octane outdoor gig.....and that's a very impressive accomplishment for a 12 watt amp....again, she held her own against a 30 watt amp on 12. Cranked up that high, the M12's tone was just silk.....this is a very very cool amp!!! How do you like the Red M12 together with the red Stratocaster??? You can see the top of the Monza here Despite the intense volume, It was still a kick in the head gig...lots of raunchy fun....

Great review and photo's Lee! One thing I love about this passion we have....It takes us to all kinds of places. From one end of the spectrum to the other. I remember the photo's of the country club looking setting a several weeks back.....then to the Purple Iguana....and back- ;D Love it!!

Hey Lee, looks like a fun gig buddy! Glad to hear the gig went well. Maybe one of these days I'll make it down there and see that M12 in action.

Congrats! The red on red looks great! Hey, if you're using the stock G12M, you might be able to make the amp "stretch" a little in high volume situations by using a slightly more efficient speaker. I ended up with a WGS Blackhawk HP in my 1x12 based solely in tone and even though it's only rated 1dB higher in sensitivity than the G12M, it seems to add more than 1dB in headroom and without adversely affecting the lower volume sweet spot for pedals. IMO, the BH HP is a match made in heaven for the M12. I did a super loud gig recently in a big club with mine and think I may have lost my clean rhythm tones with the Greenback. But, with the BH, the amp was clean still clean for rhythms and absolutely soaring with OD pedals. with any amount of controlled feedback by just leaning more or less into the amp for however much I wanted, including jumping an octave or not. It was just ridiculous!

Since this gig where the M12 struggled a bit at high volume, I have played it thru my 1 x 12 Z conv cab w/ a G12H30 and the volume was increased significantly.....which makes me wonder if this amp might just be the all-around compact gigging amp....that fixed its only weakness, and it still sounded great..... Thanks for the heads-up again on the Blackhawk... I'll order one soon.....

Yeah, speakers are sometimes the forgotten "booster" or "attenuator" an amp may need to fit a certain need. Of course, there's the tonal change to consider too. But, yes, with the slight bump in headroom I got going to the BH HP while maintaining the lower volume sweet range, I feel like I can use the M12 combo on any gig I do. The only reason I ever mix it up is for variety!
