How much headroom can you get out of a Rt. 66. I like clean with a bit "o" hair and use pedal for OD and boost. I now use a Maz 38 and for gigging typically run the gain and master both at 12:00. Gives me just what I like. would like a different flavor of Z and I'm interested in the Rt. 66. I know they are very different animals but wondering if I can achieve something close to the Maz only fatter in tone...

She's probably one of the cleaner amps the Doc makes. Not sure if fatter is the word I'd use. Early marshall. No fender flavor to be had here. Once you start getting the dials past noon is when you'll get more hair.
Of course one man's clean tone is another man's distorted tone. But from the way you describe using the Maz 38, and what you are looking to get out of the Route I think she would be able to give you exactly what you want.

Lots of clean headroom with the Route for sure. Tone wise, the word that comes to my mind is presence. Its very punchy, yet smooth at the same time. Try one out!

I've noticed that my Fender amps sound great on 4-5 but start to sound ratty beyond that. The Route 66 just keeps sounding better the more you turn it up!
