I couldn't bond with my Swart 18 watt head, a beautifully made amp that sounds great with single coils but didn't have the base and that tone that i was looking for. so i was fortunate to do an even trade for this head. two or three chords and i knew this was going to be easy to dial in my jazz tone. only played it for an hour, thru several speaker combinations, CB, CG, G12H30 and two Gibson cabs with Vintage 30's (10's and 12's). Sounds great, looks brand new, gonna be a nice labor day weekend. just have to figure out the pre and the post adjusments, currently put them both at 9 o clock, also put the base and treble at 9 and no mids. this amp does not even need reverb, but of course it has it in spades. so a lot of experimenting to do. It has he GT 6L6's in it, i don't know if they are new, but i told the previous owner that i put new 6V6's in the amp before shipping it, so he may have done the same (6L6's). in any case the amp is dead silent when not playing it. Only draw back: it is red, only kidding, very nice, 2011 model. looks like i was able to post a picture. Anyway i'm happy and i am not even going camping

Awesome! Does it still retain the blackface sound? I saw someone in this forum loaded a Z 4x10 with the 10" golds. I'm itching for another EZG-50 with a 4x10 and i'm thinking of swapping out the Z speakers for an alnico.

It definitely has the blackface sound/tone. I have had a 65 twin reissue for about 8 years now with the Jensen speakers and it has been my main amp, pretty much a standard in the tube jazz world.
The EZG50 has that traditional sound/tone but it seems to add a harmonic complexity to the notes, gives them more depth or even shimmer. I am too new to the amp to give the best description and settings, but playing with the pre and post gives a lot more flexibility then i was aware of and shades the tone from subtley to significantly. I like and am accustomed to the traditional darker, mellow, flat wound tone, but turning the pre up a bit also adds a little to a lot of higher end sparkle/definition to the note while still keeping an over mellow tone.
The reverb is just the icing on the cake and with dwell and mix offers a lot of possibilities which i am attempting to figure out.
As we all know speakers are a major factor and i have been too eager to try them all to give a really specific recommendation. So far they all sound really good. A single 8 ohm, 12 inch gold sounds very good and for just one speaker may be hard improve upon, which is good, one speaker one head is very manageable.

Congratulation on aquiring what is possibly my favorite Z. I'd say you definitely got the best of that deal. G12-65's (open back) are my personal fav's for that amp. Enjoy!

brayks, i am extremely happy with the deal, they both cost about the same amount new, and it wasn't because the Swart is not a good flexible amp, you can change power tubes 6v6, 6L6 or EL 34, and reverb and tremolo, and beautiful workmanship, but i couldn't get the tone that i was looking for so it, unfortunately it wasn't doing me any good, i could get close with a pedal, but it still didn't have all of the deep base and complexity that when you hear it; you know it. A couple of chord and i was sold on the EZG50 it is just superb. There is probably a lesson in here for me.
Someone will appreciate the Swart. I have two Swart cabs that I put a Gold and a Blue in, so i really tried. I kept the cabinets and am experimenting with them and singly or together they sound beautiful with EZG50.
Congrats on the new (to you) Z. Wonderful amp. Enjoy!
Thanks doctorice, it is a wonderful amp, and i am enjoying it. I have a Maz18 reverb and that is a great amp and it works for jazz, but i was very fortunate to trade for the EZG, i must have done a good deed here or there and i've been rewarded.

Now that I have had more time to play the amp, i must concur, for me, i definitely got the the best of the deal. I have been pairing it with a single Gold, a Blue and Gold both sound really good. At my volume level the blue is perfectly safe and rings so nicely. Two gibson cabs with 2 12's, open back, and 2 10's closed in each cabinet, all are Vintage 30's, puts out a beautiful tone. I have had those cabinets since 2000. It is so easy to dial in your tone, and easy to fine tune it with the pre and reverb adjustments. I don't think you can dial in a bad tone. I am extremely thankful i found this amp.
