What's up fellow Z-heads! I just became the proud new owner of a Monza head and am trying to figure out what Cab(s) to go with? I am either going to go with a Dr. Z 1x12 with a vintage 30 or two Ampeg 1x12 extra wides with vintage 30's: www.guitarcenter.com/Ampeg-GVT112EW-1x12-Guitar-Speaker-Cabinet-H75416-i1975402.gcBasically I can get two of these Ampeg 112EW's on sale now from GC for the price of one Dr. Z. My question is what would be the best fit for the Monza head? I know if you are a purist you want to stick with a Z Cab, but I figured I can get two of the Ampeg's which are 16 ohm and get a Y cable and run them at 8 ohm. Also can someone fill me in on the sound differences between running 16 ohm's vs. 8ohm's? Lastly what sounds better with the Monza, open or closed back? Thanks!

I've not tried the Monza with a Vintage 30, but I love it with a G12H. I'm sure it will sound great with either cab(s).

I assume the V30 are already assembled in the Ampeg - otherwise I would throw a G12H30 in at least one of them. I agree with the folks above, the G12H30 is awesome with the Monza head. I have 2 1X12 Marshall cabs, one with a G12H30 and the other with a Gold. I prefer the first one even if the Gold is also great. I like having 2 1X12 cabs because you can decide whether to bring only one or both. I got a Y power box and plug it to the 4 Ohm output as my 2 speakers are 8 Ohm each.

I just posted this on the other thread, but never mind. Monza + 112 Line 6 DT25 Extension cab w/G12H90 = Rock! Cheers!

Thanks guys for your input I really appreciated it. I ended up just ordering two cabs and A/B them. The first was the closed back Ampeg with a V30. The second was an VHT open back with a G12H. After hours of playing both, you guys (and the majority of most players) were right. The G12H hands down sounds absolutely better than the V30. In addition the open back position provides such a broader tone array. I'm glad I experimented with both and know I will be much happier with the tone out of the G12H, and as far as looks go, the VHT is a pretty spot on match as well.
Cheers!
