AFTER 13 years of service this amp is still bullet proof and making a ton of rock-n-roll JOY!!!!! I had this amp looked over a few years back when it got a Footswitchable Reverb Mod at the Factory , as many of you know I have several other amps that are great pieces but the SRZ and MY other Z's are just the Cats Meow. Especially the SRZ, I have recently found a lethal speaker setup and my other amps are again awaiting use. I also have found a Love for the KT77's and now this is the only Valve I use with this amp, I hope everyone els has as much joy with this beast as I do.

The SRZ has tempted me several times...however, I'm worried it won't have the gain I want. Was hoping the Antidote would get me there, but I don't think it will.
I'm considering ordering a 25 watt Fargen Olde 800 mkII because I want that extra 'oomph' of 80's-style gain. The SRZ looks great, but I'm afraid to order one without hearing it.

Hey KeithA , The SRZ will do the BIG ROCK 80's thing with ease, run the gain about 2-4 oclock and add a mild OD in the front say a TS9, Timmy , BB Preamp, EP Booster Its also gets more gainier with volume, The Antidote is a JTM/Plexi style circuit. The Fragen800 MKII is a sweet head but 25 watts, will leave you no headroom for anh cleans you might want. Find an SRZ at a Local dealer take your board ,you'll love the SRZ Keep us posted ;D

So, there is no chance of hearing one locally. As well, I'd want the gain to be enough with just the amp that I wouldn't need a boost/OD/distortion pedal to get to that 80s vibe. As well, don't really want the cleans, so that's why the 25 watt Fargen sounds like the ticket. I'd love to add another red head to the Z collection, but it looks like it will be something other than the SRZ Keith

If you're looking for gain don't overlook the Maz GT or the Monza.

If you're looking for gain don't overlook the Maz GT or the Monza. Maz GT was on my 'wishlist' when it was discontinued I have plenty of el84 gainy amps....it's the grunty JCM vibe that's next on the list. Keith

Speaking of overlooking the Galaxie is pretty gainy but not like the MAZGT or The Monza, There is a Brand new MazGT on EBAY, I think its an Old Dealer Stock If you search DRZ Amps its a black one, I came close to buying before my Galaxie purchase. Well, Good Luck Keep us posted on your Purchase.

Well, Good Luck Keep us posted on your Purchase. Don't get me started on the Galaxie A couple years back I ordered a Galaxie and 210 cab from my dealer. After almost 3 months I got a call that my 210 cab was in. I asked about the Galaxie head and they said they had no record of it. So, I pulled the receipt out of my wallet with the details and somehow, the guy who placed the order did it incorrectly and the head never got ordered. So, they ordered another one ASAP. A couple motnths later I got a call tha he head was in and so I dropped by to have a look-see on that same day. Turns out hat the guy who placed the order did so for store inventory and not under my name. That very day one of the other stores (Narional chain) saw the amp in inventory and placed a transfer request to move it to that store. So, I couldn't buy the amp since the request was already in for the transfer. Think I was happy so, I never did get my Galaxie...but you can't say I didn't try. Keith

^^^^ I agree with him - keep your eyes open because MAZ GTs show up regularly. I always keep an eye out for a nice Maz GT. However, I'd want one that was never gigged (ie, mint shape) and it has to be red So, my chances of finding one are slim oh well, the good news is that the amps I bought along the way as I deferred the Maz GT are great Keith

That's the one where it estimates shipping to Canada at $332 If it were red, I'd call the shop to see what shipping arrangements could be done other than the FedEx option on the EBay listing....but it's not red Keith

The SRZ, Mazerati GT, and the Galaxie are my top three.
You won't have any problem w/ the SRZ doing big 80's rock/metal. It is, after all, Doc's take on the JCM 800.
The GT is a real sleeper. There isn't too much out there on the web that shows its versatility. jamesraymondsmith did a bunch of videos w/ it, but his vids really don't do it justice (no offense intended, it's just that the amp can do so much more...). It is a high-gain monster, but it has a real refined gain. It cleans up real nice, too, w/ the guitar volume knob.

My old SRZ 65 head (red) is at the Guitar Center in Toledo (Holland Ohio). I think they have it for around 1300. It's in awesome condition and sounds phenominal!! I dont have the $ to buy it back but it's waiting for a new home and will rock your socks off.

I bought the 92 long box that was on ebay. Been wanting one ever since I played one in '98 or '99. I'm so lucky! #11! The kt-77s sounds interesting to me. Is it a softer, more rounded, (bluesier) tone? I have a open back Z 2/12 cab with 25w greenbacks. Also have a blonde Stangray and Im going to try the blues and golds. Have u tried the srz with these?

You dont want to run the SRZ with a Gold and Blue , Its a hard expensive lesson to learn, its only rated at 30 watts the SRZ is Very Capable of producing 65 plus watts with the 77's , The 77's give the amp a bit more lowend and the mids are more pronounced its just sweeter overall IMO than the 34's , both are good but for me the 77's have and will be the only tube I run, 6CA7's are good too if you like lots of Szzle and CRUNCHINESS

I think I am going to send it to Z and have it tuned up. Also Ive been reading through the threads to figure out which pre-amp tubes to use where. Probably have them install the KT-77s. Know of any websites with good info on these original 65s? Thinking about re-tolexing cause its got so many cig burns on it. But you know I probably should have another shell made in blonde with a trans blonde swamp ash front, and make the Z logo out of abalone! I may do a website dedicated to these. I am probably going to have get one of the newer ones to run stereo! Probably leave it set up with 34s. Whew! How good would that sound?!!

Hey Dray this WEBSITE/FORUM is the ONly Place for the Best info on any Z Amp, The 34's are fine in your amp, I have all NOS USA Black LOng Plate Pre amp tubes in my SRZ, Its not a must but it will make the highs so smooth and just makes everything SWEETER This is where the signal begins. V1 is the most important, so dont Skimp in that slot, NOS EL 34 's are Priciey but worth EVERY PENNY, POst some picts of that Head would love to see it Oh yeah to answer you stangray question, its really not a fire breather amp but you can get more squeeze from it by stacking a couple of OD's or using say a KOT, or for me I use a Wampler Pinnacle and a Timmy and it gets into Heavy Rock territory QUICKLY!
