Im running a brake lite on my Z28
Been holed up in the studio about a month anxiously waiting to get around to tracking guitars, after a few days of getting some lovely lower volume clean tones with my amp, we went for something a bit more broken up today only to be met with an awful staticy crackle sound. Not speaker break up, not musical, just awful, distracting crackle. Disappointed, I tracked using a few other amps to for the day.
After the session, I sat with my amp and tried to trouble shoot...I bypassed the brake lite (still had noise issues on "0" clicks) and voila! static seems gone! i wont be able to tell ENTIRELY until tracking tomorrow, but it certainly seemed to solve the problem. Any idea what this could be?
Z28 2x10 combo (22 watts) Celestion G10 (30 watts, 16 ohm) Weber Blue Pup (30 watts, 16 ohm)
plugged into brake lite -> Amp
Really stumped on this one, but maybe im overlooking/misunderstanding something simple.
Thanks!

Check the obvious stuff first - speaker cables, plugs and jacks, etc. You need good conductivity on everything. Swap cables, etc.
You might try some cleaner like DeOxit in the jacks.
If that doesn't fix it, then I'm wondering if you have a loose connection inside. Open it up and have a close look at all of the connections, and wiggle the wires gently to see if any surprises pop up.
If none of that helps, I think I'm stumped.

Thanks Steve! I'll do some cleaning and contact evaluation when I can, as for now well just be recording LOUD!

apparently the issue was one very unhappy 6V6, not sure what the issue with it is, but theres some rattling sound in there, and it gets very amplified ha

Weird! I guess there's a first time for everything, but I've never seen this one before.

well thats where its a bit weird. As coincidence would have it, a buddy had a speaker crackle issue when using his brakelite, and my speaker crackle issue seemed to go away when i bypassed mine. But for whatever reason, the tube just was kind of fine for a bit when i initially bypassed it, and now its back to its crackley old ways! Shame someone left by pelican case of back up tubes at a gig somewere quite some months ago...there goes more money that didnt need to be spent!

Ah, circumstance driven observations. That gets us every time...
