Does it matter what type of plate resistor is used for the power tubes in a MAZ 18, as long as the ratings are in spec?....carbon comp?...metal film?..etc. Is one type particularly better or more long-lived in that part of the circuit?

Actually there are no plate resistors on output tubes. Output tubes plates are connected directly to the Output Transformer which is the load to the OT's.
I use Metal film flame proof resistors in all power supply circuits, and Carbon Film in most other.

DOH!!...sorry Doc, was thinking of something else apparently; I don't have a schematic, but with the amp open, I'm looking at the 2.7K's on the power tube sockets that look like they must be grid resistors. One's breaking down, so I'm going to replace both with a matched pair.

OK, that makes more sense. I have used Carbon Film in that position, Grid Stopper, for 25 years.
Very important connection make sure you have good solder conection, or EL-84 will Red Plate.

Another reminder of what it is I love about this place. If we still had the "K" button, I'd be hitting it right 'bout now...

Are you using 1/2W or 1W there? (the ones in this amp looked changed).

One Watt resistors in that position.
