Just got a voicemail from Stu Carter at Fat Sound. Many of you know Stu and understand how knowledgeable he is about everything tone. Stu was one of the guys who really helped put Z amps on the map from the retail perspective. he called to tell me that he was shipping my M12 after having spent the night with it for review (he asked me if it was ok to do this prior).
3 words/phrases stood out in the voicemail: 1. "Badass" 2. "kickin'" 3. "one of the best amps ive ever played"
I havent spoken to him yet to get the full gist of his thoughts, but thought you guys might enjoy hearing his initial thoughts. I will updated this after i speak to him directly.

UPDATE: Just spent an hour on the phone with Stu. To say that he is enthusiastic about the M12 is an understatement. He said that he was working on a full-blown review and clips that should go up on his website soon.
I've known Stu for a long time and he is as excited about this amp as much if not more than any amp i have ever discussed with him. He is actually using my head to shoot photos of and to do sound clips with. He is such a cool guy that he is throwing in a NOS Telefunken or Amperex EF86 for letting him keep the amp for a couple of extra days to play with.
I think he said that his order from Z should be arriving soon, so give Stu a call.

I've done two gigs with mine and love it. I still have a Maz 18 NR head I got from Stu back in 2002 and love that too. I have a few clips of the M12 from gigs I'm editing now. Stay tuned.

Update--taken directly from Fat Sound's website:
"The newly released M12 easily ranks as one of our top 3 designs from Dr Z. Rivaling our old friend, the MAZ 18, and the more recently released, shop fave.... Z Wreck for overall tonal perfection..."

You're going to have a fine weekend, I predict. It's so good, I'm actually considering getting a second M12 - and going back to playing in stereo. Maybe with a Strymon Flint to split the signal into stereo.

I was thinking about a head shell for mine, for those times I want to use the 4x12. The M12 into my Germino 4x12 with the M75-PVCs is one of the all-time best tones I've ever heard, period.

That would be the difficult thing to decide on, with a stereo M12 rig - what speaker(s). Right now, my Reinhardt 2x12 slant cab with 2 WGS 65w Reinhardt spec'd speakers is darn near perfect. But a 2x12 w/ceramic and Alnico speakers might just top that. The speaker possibilities with this amp are great. You want this tone, you got it. You like it another way, you got that too. Excellent amp.

Excellent amp. Agreed. Although I went through a half dozen different speaks to land on the WGS BH HP, they all sounded great in an absolute sense but they were also influenced heavily by the cabs they were in. In fact, when it came to Greenback style speaks, the cabs completely determined whether they finished in first or last place!

Stu says he loves it best with a scumnico which I believe is approximation of a Cel gold. Mine will be here Friday and I am gonna test the greenback, V30 and blue. Really hoping for a rainy weekend so I have a good excuse to stay in.

In the 1x12 combo cab, the Tone Tubby original came in a strong 2nd place to the Blackhawk HP. EVM12L was really nice in a Thiele cab. I bet the Scumnico is great, as my top two picks were Alnicos too! I'd go with the 65W or 100W option, as they tend to sound sweeter, juicier and fuller than lower wattage Alnicos.
