First practice using the Brake Light with the band yesterday, original Rx was the amp.
Unattenuated (0) was expectedly too loud, 1 was still on the loud side, but the 2 was decidedly quieter than the amp needed to be. The jump between 1 and 2 seemed really big. Continuing through the steps, the volume got quieter down to levels you might use for recording and practice.
Have others seen this? Tricks for fine-tuning?

Yeah, I find 0 to be nice on my Z28, 1 for very small gigs only ......as anywhere else it sounds like the OD pedal is on. Not posible to use above 1 in my settings.

I used 4 for recording last night, all amp controls around noon except for mids dimed, and the tones were excellent.

Getting it to have the volume of a 15 watt is the problematic thing! I am considering less efficient speakers so that 0 and 1 will be more usable.

Well, "0" completely bypasses the BL, so if you don't like that setting, you probably need a new amp. You can adjust the two middle steps (2&3) a bit, though. If you look at the back of the unit (you will need to take off the bottom plate if this is the SA model), you will see two long rheostats running vertically. The one on the right has four connections on it, which represent the 4 levels of attenuation. On the middle two, you can loosen the screw that holds them to the rheostat, and slide them up/down. Sliding them down increases the attenuation for that step, sliding them up decreases the attenuation. Tighten the screw back up and let 'er rip!

Yup, the BL looks a lot like that, except only 2 moveable parts.
I've tinkered with both of mine to make step 3 a little less loud than stock. I find step 4 to be a bit quieter than I'd like, but my wife finds the stock step 3 to be louder than she likes, so I made step three a little quiter. Voila!
Really, though, its a simple 5 minute job.

Excellent! Just the sort of info I was looking for. I'll try removing the BL to see about making these adjustments.
The amp sounds killer, by the way, even at max attenuation. I managed to record some very nice tones the other day, scratch guitar part but sounded good enough to keep.
I do have a less efficient speaker on order from Weber (the 1225), to replace the excellent-sounding but loud 1230 that's alongside a Greenback.

I just hacked the BL in the above mentioned manner, raising the level of setting 2 by unscrewing the clip for that setting, and moving it up closer to the end of the rheostat. Seems to work. Band-level test pending.
Of course, now the difference between 2 and 3 is too much, so I may have to change setting 3.
Inspection confirms that settings 0, 1, and 4 are hardwired.
