Anybody use these? We're looking to downsize our big, heavy 15" Yamaha PA cabs in favor of something smaller and lighter, and the PR 12s look like a good bet--and a good fit for our powered mixer. I'll also be gigging a Ghia or Z28 1x10 in the near future. As a band, we are too old and decrepit to lug all this heavy stuff back and forth for a couple hundred bucks. We either have to downsize or hire us a stout roadie.

Ah, well--it's here, eh? So much for this thread, then.

Just an idea - Look for a pair of used ev sx300 speakers. Pretty sure they are plastic and a lot of dj's use them.
The Indianapolis guitar center had a pair of passive Ev's - used - as of a few days ago for 199 each.
Not as light as ev - but a pair of Yamaha club series 12's are way lighter and easier to handle than the yamaha 15's. I have had both. You can find the yamaha 12's used for 200-250 each all day long.
The peaveys get good reviews, never heard them myself so I can't really compare. I am sure they would do the job though.

Yeah--the Peaveys run $189/ea at MF. Their coupons don't apply to them (or much of anything else), though.

I had a pair of the the older version PR12's for a few years, good for the money but had their limitations, not particularly clear sounding. Those EV's suggested above would be a much better bet if you want passives, highly recommended by everyone I spoke to when I was searching for PA stuff.

To get good vocal clarity you need good horns. Thus ev's or Yamaha club series 12's have done well for me in that regard.

I just bought 2 passive AltoProfessional TS112 for aobut 170.00 each. As good as the Mackie 1x12 with horn passive. 300W driver and 100W horn or thereabouts. I also bout the powered ones too for 290.00. As good as the Mackies SRM12s. Almost as good as the FBT Maxx4a. Used them in gigs and we are very happy with them. In vertical position they tilt back 20° which is a cool feature. Heavy duty but light weight. I like 12" better for vocal response. I have FBT subs to use with them if I need a sub.

My brother uses the PR 10's and I can't believe the sound he gets out of those. That's mostly acoustic though.

Its hard to beat the Carvin 12" 3 ways for live sound on a budget, they sound really good. Maybe not quite as good as the MRX JBL's or the yamaha clubs, but I would say pretty close and they are light and cheap. Anyway they work good for me.
