So... what are the differences between these two? When would you use one rather than the other...? is it just wattage? or are there tonal differences?

So... what are the differences between these two? When would you use one rather than the other...? is it just wattage? or are there tonal differences? The Airbrake has two controls. The first works similarly to the way the Brake Lite works. But on the last setting, the second knob comes into play and you can turn down even further. Most folks prefer not to get down there but it is there if you need it. That and the wattage are the primary differences. Click the link in my signature for some specifics...

So... what are the differences between these two? When would you use one rather than the other...? is it just wattage? or are there tonal differences? I had the brake lite and just recently got the air brake. A friend of mine got the air brake and did a trade with me for it. As Steve stated it has a bedroom setting on it that the brake lite does not have giving you the option of taking it down a little more. I had a chance to A/B between the two with my friend lending his ears and opinion on the testing of the two and we both agreed that the airbrake sounded fatter less compressed and warmer even in the bedroom setting it just for me had a better tone. I only use attenuation at home so the Air Brake was the logical choice for me. If I was gigging with an attenuator I would prefer the brake lite obviously for its portability. Just my opinion I am no expert. '

I've used both with my Ghia & Z28. It seems to me that the BL sounds better to my ears but I really only ever use the 1st & 2nd settings. I thought that the AB had more effect on the natural tone of the amp(s)... the BL seems more transparent. Could it be that the size of the resistor used in the BL is better suited to the lower wattage amps I am using? Maybe

resistors don't sound, they have ideally a flat frequency response. maybe a matter of stray capacitances or inductances which depend on wiring and construction (also of the components: resistors, plugs, switches). but I agree that the BL sounds somehow fatter.

Lucky this isn't a highend audio website Personally, I'm putting these hifi knobs on my Remedy: Knobs - Shoot, they are only $485! Maybe I'll get two sets and do the whole amp!
