Did the early rays come with a 5U4GB rectifier tube in lieu of the GZ34? seems like I've seen both...?

Its always been a GZ-34 - 5AR4. TO my knowledge. I know it wouldnt hurt to use one , The 5UA. I have swapped my 5AU in my Galaxie it gives it a lil more looser feel as I was Told by Don, The Best Amp Tech the doc has at his shop. The whole crew is Awesome, they do great work and their Customer Service is Hands Down "THE BEST"!!!!! I m curious to know what the Ray sounds like with that rectifier keep us posted very interesting thread ;D

How about copper caps? Any one run their ray with cc's in it? I'm aware of the raised B+ voltage.....

I was using one, Think I might go back. Liked it. I also made up a octal with 6 1N007 diodes like a Bassman, twin or showman. Sounded real good. The Stang seems saggy enough anyway.

Any power tube issues/heating up issues with the CC?

I would think the CC would make the Ray More snappier Clean sounding, I Lust for just the Opposite, I want that nice sweet breakup the ray offers especially when the volume is at about 7 ;D

So I just installed my new Copper Cap and hell I think I love it. not sure if there is a real tone difference they say you cant really hear it since its not in the actual signal path but what ever. The low end does seem a little tighter at high volumes. Whats excites me the most is that the amps runs way cooler, literally half the heat coming off the power tubes now.
