Back in the day I did a lot of multi tracking on a 4 track. Now I wanted to get back into it a little, I bought a tascam 8 track, seems complicated but just started with it. Is there a better one? Any recommendations for software, i have a mac. Thanks. JT.

If you already have a Mac there's a good chance you already have Garageband.

If you already have a Mac there's a good chance you already have Garageband. I have that but it wont load Wav files which is what tascam outputs. seems to be a pain in the butt to get this stuff to work...and I'm a pretty good computer guy...

I really love the Alsesis HD 24.....It's 24 tracks digital, and a familiar adat style control panel. No computers required. (Which is a good thing for me)

If you have garage band you can record 8 tracks simultaneously with a firewire interface. Apple Logic is a great app.

Don't underestimate Garage band. We do ProTools in studio but I get scratch tracks via email and do my overdubs or whatever in GarageBand sitting in my lazyboy. Then eamil back to master. I use apogee guitar interface which is decent quality. 100% iPad virtual instruments. I've even layer down some cheesy B3 tracks. Unfortunatly my bubble may burst now that I have the Remedy.

garage band is pretty easy to use, I have a tascam dp-008 and did some live recording friday night. It was in a very loud club but came out pretty good after EQing and a bit of compression. I'm going to do another recording at a gig on friday and see how it goes. The digital recording is very clean these days, and lots of tools. In the early 80's I had a 4 track cassette, and the only reverb I had was by running it through my old fender twin reverb...now its just a knob....
