What are your favorite guitars with the Route 66? I'm thinking that my Tele might be stellar once I get a chance to Jam with this thing. I also have a G&L Legacy (Strat type). Neither one of these guitars gets used as much with my two other amps ... usually go to the humbucker guitars (Yamaha SA2000 semi-hollow and LP Traditional) for those amps. Trying to set up a jam soon ... to find out for myself.

Ummm, all of them . Seriously though, I only play a Tele and an LP and they are equally awesome.

Mine should be here in the next month or so and I fully expect to play the Strat primarily through the new Red Devil Keith

AS with "what kind of music can you play..." the same goes for guitars... if you can't play it with a RT66... ...the problem's not the amp! hahhaha!

"if you can't play it with this, you can't play it". Been playing for 45 years now myself. However, I wouldn't take a Mesa Triple Rectifier to a blues jam while I would certainly take my original Boogie. There are really not a lot of clips of people using the amp. I personally had some stuggles with it ... but that's not unusual for me with a new amp. So just asking players what there preferences are ... that's all. I will eventually find my way with the amp ... or not ... no biggie. But still ok to ask the opinions of others on gear and it's best use.

For me: A Fender American Strat Gibson 335 - Got a little Larry Carlton going on with an Ethos Drive in front of the 66

A G&L Legacy was the only guitar I owned when I had my Route 66. So that's what got used. I turn everything I play into rock. I love rock & roll. It's just where my preference is.

I have a G&L Legacy too ... I like it better than the Strat that I had ... gave the Strat to my son one Christmas. Ended up missing it and got a real good deal on the Legacy. They are nice guitars. But I tend to take the humbuckers to gigs and record with the single coils. Kinda' hoping the single coils turn out to be a killer combo with the RT66.

For quite a while I played a Clapton Strat thru my 66.
Now I'm using a LP Custom thru it.
Both sound really good. I almost always have a clean boost on and work with the volume pot on the guitar to clean up a bit.
FWIW, I think this is really good tone - although he's using 2 Z amps - LeftyLang is a forum member, I think.
Good luck!

DC here! I personally almost all the time play my Warmoth Telcaster on it - it sounds awesone - my Les Paul does not get much time these days. However at the montly bluesjams at a local pub in my hometown - lots of guitars get play through my Route - to me they all sound good - if different - I'd have a hard picking a fave guitar with this amp - just my two cents. Cheers: Dixiechicken!

I really like my tele through the Rt 66. Other guitars sound good as well, but the Tele really sings thru that amp.

I recently picked up a Larrivee RS4. Their take on a LP. I cannot put it down! I have played an R9 VOS for the past 4-5 yrs and didn't think any guitar could replace it. Wrong!! The RS4 with HB's plays and sounds killer thru the 66. My SRV strat is another that just blends with the 66 also.

( I would take a triple rec to a blues jam ...so you can't trust me)

First, let me say that my tele sounds very good through the 66, fat and in your face at even moderate settings. I haven't tried my strat - it pretty much lives in the closet.
But here's a bit of a curve ball: I took my Heritage and the 66 (with 1x12 open back Mesa cabinet) to a big band rehearsal earlier this week and have never heard that guitar sound better in the 15 years I've had it (and played it through Fender, Polytone and AcousticImage amps). The amp was set with all controls at noon, and the guitar vol was 4, tone 7. Perfect sound for rhythm playing in this ensemble, but the bonus is that for solos I only had to turn the guitar up to about 6 or 7 and didn't approach the feedback threshhold, which is always a consideration when playing a hollow body (fyi, one way to mitigate feedback is to place your body between the guitar and amp). It was fat but not boomy, a very nice round jazz tone.
Great amp.

Thanks for the post on your use of a Rt 66 with you Heritage Golden Eagle. I have a Heritage 535 that I use with the Route. I also have a strat that I put together Lollar PUP's that sounds really good. I never thought of using a Jazz box like the Golden Eagle with it. That is cool, learn something everyday. What speaker were you using?

Mesa 1x12 wide body open back cab with Celestion c90 on a Auralex Gramma. My understanding is that the c90 is basically a Celestion Classic Lead speaker goosed up from 80 to 90 watts handling capability.
Also, I use my CS336 with my 66 with very good results.

Les Paul. Mine is an R7 historic, but they all sound great to me through this amp.

Clapton Strat, control everything from the guitar and no pedals.

My G&L Legacy at even low volume on the amp sounded big and round at home. Recently the G&L ASAT Deluxe sounded great into a WGS Blackhawk 2:00 on the volume knob, but way down on the guitar in the basement. An outdoor event into the Z-Best I ventured near the 3-3-3 setting territory and it rocked with both Legacy and ASAT Deluxe.I also recently ran it into two 2x10 z-convertible cab's at a smaller outdoor event (dials closer to noon) with ASAT deluxe and it was very musical. I've also noticed the amp sounds better after the tubes have been on a while. It may be my imagination, but in any event it is a very versatile & satisfying amp.
