I was able to get a new Mini-Z combo this past weekend, and I'm really enjoying it thus far. I did do the 12AY7 swap today, and it's now just about perfect for me. I play both a Strat and a Les Paul through it, and both do fine...with a slight edge to the '57HR Strat. I am impressed at how well the amp takes pedals and effects, and the cleans are much better-than-expected. The amp has such great harmonics, I sometimes think I have a tremelo effect engaged! The amp is a really nice home-studio tool!

Very nice. Congrats. Did you try any reverb into the front of it yet? I have been thinking about a TC Hall of Fame Reverb for some time now, but.. I'm in no rush as I like how it sounds alone or with my EP Booster. Anyway if you try a reverb and like it let me know. I guess they say not all of the reverbs sound good in front of an amp. (ie no loop)

I did indeed...
I have a Line 6 M13 and I'm running delay and reverb through it at various times. I'm very pleased that the levels of the effects don't "spike" all that much as you turn-up volume.
The 5112 I basically swapped for this amp would amplify the effect as you turned-up volume to the point that any effect became useless.
I'm not saying you can clock the volume and use a reverb (why would you?) but yes, you can play with a reverb pedal through the front of this amp. It adds a three-dimensionality and smoothness when clean that is extremely appealing.
Can't say enough for the 12AY7 tube. It makes the amp MUCH more versatile.

Thanks oasis. I may get the hall of fame and try it. I may even ask the doc to put a 12ay7 in if I get the new mod done. You believe the tube gives more headroom?

MUCH more headroom. Yet, you can get all the crunch you need at the 2:00-3:00 region. It basically moved the sweet spot two hours clockwise, and maintains clean headroom to noon. A simple "daylight savings time" mod for headroom .

Thanks Tom. I'm gonna sell an extra acustic guitar and grab the Hall of Fame soon.
