I agree with Propellr "let those battle scars show" if the finish is original, let it be man ;D YMMV

LP's with some wear and tear just look cool.

All this talk about the LP's had made me take mine out and dust it off. Had to make a few fine adjustments first though... Added some relief to the neck and then lowered the action a tad.
One thing I noticed about my LP on the Z's is the Custom must be a very dark guitar. I had to go to 2pm on the treble of the Maz (normally at 11am) and bring the Cut to 12pm. But I gave the volume a good crank, around 2pm and instantly had that Jimmy P thing going. Then I kicked in the BB and it was heaven.
Thanks

I'm using my Les Paul with my new Ghia for the tune that I'm recording now. Basically, it just sounds great whether clean, gritty, or overdriven. The sustain is fantastic.
And I agree that you want to let the battle scars show. I almost had mine refinished years ago because I thought another guitar player's Les Paul looked cool with a clear finish. It really didn't.

One thing I noticed about my LP on the Z's is the Custom must be a very dark guitar. LP Customs don't customarily (redundant? lol) have the maple top of the Standards (except for the 70's models) so they should sound darker despite the ebony 'board.

+skydog. My Vintage Mahogany with its Burstbucker Pros is definitely on the dark side... deliciously so.

Here's a heads up for all you fellas-- to any of you that LOVE LOVE LOVE a Les Paul, but HATE HATE HATE the weight and the price, check out these 4 beauties I just saw on eBay: Four NOS Smartwood BeautiesTwo of them are the same as mine in this very thread (not that you'd want to be like me, or anything). The other two lighter wood beauties would be mine if I were not in debt right now. I could literally buy this guitar again and again! (In bad fake Russian accent), "Aye luhve dis contdedy!"

Hey, the Banara one is nice. Thanks for the heads up. I could ...
No, GAS has passed. You almost got me there. Excuse me while I go apologize to my 336. Seriously, if I had not recently totally blown my guitar budget I would have already hit the BIN button.

Yeah, man, if you have a CS-336, any budget you had is blown like a fuse in a thunderstorm. You go apologize. Plain top or figured? Color?

The back of the neck really needs to be taken care of, it slows me down quite a bit, but the refin idea is just getting the neck fixed snowballed. Thanks for pulling me back.

If it's any consolation, pappy, I tend to overthink things, as well. We just had our laundry room remodeled and I over-designed the shelving. The good news is, I took the shelves back that I ended up not using and got a sizable refund. propellr, one: the man, zero.

Yep Jaye, when I placed my order I had a nice chat with Stu, the GT was his brain child tone wise, I got to play it at Z Fest so I asked Stu if he'd found a favorite speaker; "Well the sound I was after was all the great Marshall tones on the rock recordings of the '70's and an old Marshall 4x12 with Greenbacks is my favorite..." ;D ;D 'nuff said, I'll take one in Red Sir........
