Hey guys,
I've had Zs for a while but the Mini is new to me. I got it really just for home practice so I save tube life on my main Zs and for Worship where stage volume is the enemy (My maz18 w/ 3 clicks on an airbrake and MV at 12:00 was still getting looks!)
So 1st day...I did switch the pre-amp tube to the 12ay7 based on my research here. That did just what I expected...got me a little over a quarter turn more on the volume before i lost my cleans.
After a half an hour I just opened it up full blast. All was well. Then I wanted to see how it took to some pedals. I forget what I ran in front of it..either A KoT or a Dyna Red, but as soon as I clicked it on...Boom. Blew out. A few minutes of checking showed it to be the el84.
So I was wondering is this normal? It is just 5 watts and I had it maxed. Am I asking for trouble driving it more than that? Or was it just a weak tube and I can go back to blasting some gain if needed?
Thanks

No one else has reported that problem. So my best guess is a weak EL 84 that desided to give up the ghost. Try a new EL 84 just plug-n-play you should be ok, make sure the fuse is good.

I see doc answered. What he said. I have run a fuzz and an ep booster everything at max volume for quite some time (family out of house) just to see what sounds i Could get. No problems. Knock on wood.

Thanks Doc,
Yep, it is running fine with a spare EL84 in there. I was just worried that it was MY fault and I blew it up doing something it couldn't handle. It is good to hear that it should be able to take getting hit with an OD even maxed.
I am not sure what to look for on the fuse? I pulled it out and it looked normal. I guess if it was bad I would have seen something obvious.
Up and running fine though now.
