It wasn't supposed to happen till July, but the wife got me my b-day gift early. I tossed around the idea of either a Maz or a Stang Ray, but after I played the Ray again I knew I had to bring it home.
Its a gently used 20th anniversary 2x12 combo in blonde tolex. I've never been huge on blonde, but it actually looks really nice.
I've only had the chance to play it a couple times, and there was a bit of a scare when I brought it home (which a new rec tube sorted out), but it sounds phenomenal! Beautiful warm AND chimey cleans, I've never heard anything like it. The drive sounds great for what I wanted it for (classic and indie rock), and it takes all my pedals like a champ. Exactly what I was looking for.
I was pretty surprised too when I brought it home and cranked it up; it doesn't get much louder past halfway on the dial, just more gainy. Its genius. The blues really suit this amp too; I've never liked them with the Voxes I had.
Anyway, back to playing...I'll have to post some pics up soon.

What guitar(s) are you using? I've been using a LP with '57 Classics and it sounds great thru my 'Ray - which surprised me that buckers could sound good while running 'clean'.

I also use a Tele with a Duncan 59 bucker in the neck and a Muy Grande single in the bridge. Both sound awesome through the Ray.

Keep us posted on the sounds, I have an Anniversary Model as well, They have extra MOJO From The factory , LOL ya I had to tell her that . I played it for a couple hours yesterday and I continue to be impressed by its versatility. I knew the clean tone was amazing, thats why I bought it. But it just swallows every pedal I have and sounds great with them (the polar opposite of my Orange). I also tried running it through my cab with v30's and greenbacks instead of the Blues...its a whole new sound! It loses some of that great clean tone because the blues are so warm and chimey, but its way more aggressive with the other cab. I could easily slap a pedal in front and play metal with it if I wanted...quite surprising. Great great rock tones there for sure. I'm almost tempted to just scrap the Orange and figure out a way to switch between cabinets...dont know that I could not have an Orange though.

You should try a celestion Gold!!!! You talk about tone. Chimey and big bottom nice creamy mids. All in one. And you cant blow it up with the Ray cause its a 50 watter:)) glad youre digging it. It is a very very versitile amp ;D

Congratulations on a fine amp. I agree, the Ray rocks with ceramic speakers. For playing top 40 rock & classic rock a 2x12 open back loaded with a weber silver bell and blue dog both 50 watt sounds great with the Ray's volume control at about 2:00 air brake on 1 or 2 clicks. Tone heaven! And like the greenbacks the webers are inefficient speakers so you can crank up the volume control even more.

Gratz on the Ray, they are outstanding amps. I have a head going to a 2X12 with a blue and a gold. It is sonic heaven.

Just had to update this thread. I know its only been a hair under 2 weeks, but I can confidently say that the Ray is easily the best amp I have ever played. Usually by this point I've come across at least something that I don't like in an amp...certain settings, how it takes a particular guitar or pedal, how it doesnt sound that great for some riffs or songs...I cannot find one thing I don't like about the Ray. Its worth every penny and I'll have 'er for a long time I think.
I was contemplating getting a distortion pedal for it, but its so good now I just wanna try more Z's. I listed my other Orange today...there is an SRZ coming in my not so distant future I think.

I used the SRZ and The Stangray Setup A/B for quite along time, The only down fall to the Using these two heads the with the Same cab Via Headbone is the Output wiring on the ray is not in Phase with my SRZ it took a while to figure that out but once I got it Dialed in..... TONAL HEAVEN!

Ya I noticed you are using those two...I'm jealous . Cant really see the pics well but I'm sure its sweet. I have a stereo 4x12 I could run them through too...one on the left 2, one on the right 2. Oh well, I sold my other Orange, now I'll just have to save. I ordered the Wampler Pinnacle to tide me over. Maybe in a few months . I'm happy just having the Ray for awhile.
