I'm in a bit of a dilemma... I'm in a small Unit and need a cab... now I have a Weber Blue Dog and Silver Bell (Both 30w) lying around.. and they sound great together... I would like to get a 2x12, but think that its a little impractical at the moment for my living space... also I hope to get gigging again soon (just moved to new city) and maybe a 1x12 would be more transportable.... so do you guys think my Rt 66 (w 5U4 rectifier) will blow a weber alnico silver bell (30w) I also have an Airbrake, I can stick in between to calm the volume down a bit. Part of me is considering just getting a 1x12 with Celestion Gold... and maybe getting a cheap 2x12 down the road to load the Webers into... but its a hard decision. Of the two webers I like the Silver Bell the most, that's why im considering putting it in the 1x12. Thanks, Mark

Howdy,
I've no direct experience with the '66, but still own a 30 watt Alnico silver bell. Weber makes thier speakers strong enough to handle thier wattage, fwiw. I'd think that if your '66 was attenuated, your Silver Bell would hold up just fine. Just MHO.
Since you are using the 5U4 instead of the GZ34, your '66 shouldn't be pumping out as many watts as we commonly hear about with this amp: 40, 50 watts?

I'm running a Celestion G12H30 (30 watt rating) with my 66 and I've not had any trouble unattenuated. Now, I don't really crank my 66 on a regular basis. I have cranked it from time to time without any trouble, though.

I used a Heritage G12H with mine. Worked out just fine.

I decided to go with the 1x12 for now, and worry about what to do if I need a 2x12 later.
I went for the best cab I could get, it's made by a company called Amwatts here in Australia... handmade furniture grade pine, half open back... its an amazing size... should have it in a week!
Its been waayyyy to long since I have played my route 66!!!! In total about 7 or 8 months!!... been playing out of a roland micro cube...

That's way too long to go w/out playing the 66. I hear those micro-cubes are alright.

Tell me about it! I moved overseas for work and had to start from scratch, so I'm finally able to get my cab!
