I don't see many movies at the theater due to time constraints and the fact that there's not a whole lot of movies that are worth it to me to spend $7.50-$10.00 on. I am, however, a huge fan of Joss Whedon (Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Dollhouse, and the new Avengers movie to name a few). Joss and his co-conspirators made a "horror movie" a couple of years ago that got tied up by the MGM bankruptcy. It's out now and I saw it last night. All I've got to say is, "What a ride." It's not a traditional horror/slasher movie; it's a devious send-up of the genre in general, a conspiracy movie, a science fiction movie, and about 10 other things all rolled into one movie that works. DO NOT read anything about the movie, just go see it. I guarantee you won't "see that coming". Who knew why all those groups of teenage kids who go the cabin in the woods to drink and have sex end up getting murdered in the weirest possible ways? Now we know. Rated "R" for many "f-bombs" and over the top violence making fun of the over the top violence found in today's brainless slaher horror movies.

I'm a huge fan of classic horror and science fiction films. Had my fill of the slasher and zombie stuff after the early ones, i.e., Halloween and its derivatives, and the George Romero films. (Will admit to enjoying 28 Days Later and Shaun of the Dead And I like The Walking Dead on AMC.) This one looks interesting. Thanks for the seal of approval, Phil.

Not being a connoisseur of the horror genre (especially the more recent "Saw" and other gore movies) I had no idea how many films they referenced and lampooned last night when I saw the film. It's not a lampooning like "Airplane" or "Scary Movie"...it's a more mature, intelligent skewering. It's definitely not a parody flick. Now that I've read more about the films that are being referenced it's even funnier! DON'T read about it first though. Just go see it. If you're a fan of recent horror films you'll especially love it. I loved it even without getting all the "in joke" references. Now I get where all the "Kill Bill" style fake blood came from late in the movie.

Will have to check it out Phil.
For another goofy fun parody of that genre, check out "Tucker and Dale vs Evil" out on Netflix instant right now. Some laughs in that one.

Well, different strokes for different folks. I just saw it and I thought it was a stinker. I had much higher hopes for it. I'll admit that I was going to be a hard sell to begin with because I'm not a fan of the genre but I thought I'd like it because it looked like it had so much potential to be interesting. It wasn't (IMO).

I'm not a horror or slasher film fan at all but I'm very interested in the good vs. evil mythology and science fiction, and I can appreciate the fact that they're making fun of the horror genre at the same time.
Movies are a very personal thing though. Everyone said "District 9" was a great film...I was bored to death. I didn't identify with the main character or the aliens at all. I couldn't wait for that to be over.

I liked the GvE and SciFi aspect of TCitW as well. It was much fun the wife liked it too. Very predictable at times like the Merman near the end and the sacrificial aspect was apparent very early on....

I should see this then. Work at a vfx studio that did the special effects on this, I hardly ever see the completed movies since we've seen all the shots a million times during production, kinda spoils a lot of movies for me, good thing they don't do too many great ones Actually I can't remember the last time I really loved a movie.
