I've played several types of shows now with the JAZ and have arrived at a set up that covers everything from Clapton to James Burton to 60's Motown. I've tried to do this with a minimum of equipment. The signal chain goes like this.
Custom built strat w/Fralin Blues Specials(base plate on bridge PU). Wired with only two controls, master tone and volume (like a Tele). The base plate and tone control allows me to get a very convincing Tele tone when needed. Tele tone setting is usually around 50 to 60%. Strat tones are about 90%. The JAZ is so responsive that learning to use the guitar's tone control is VERY important. A third knob could be wired as a blend control but mine only has two.
Xotic AC Comp
Gain - 8:30
Vol - 9:30
Treb - 9:30
Bass - 1:30
Switch - Comp
Fulltone OCD V4 with diode removed
Vol - 12:00
Drive - 9:00
Tone - 12:00
Switch - LP
Analogman Dual Delay
Delay #1 - 1/8 sec. single slap back
Delay #2 - 1/4 sec. delays (tweak to taste)
Klon
Gain - Minimum
Treb - 2:00
Output - 9:30
OK, not everyone has a Klon. I mainly use it as a slight presence boost for rock tones and as a boost when playing pick-up position #2 but it does add that "Klon" thing that I can feel more than hear. An Xotic RC would work well for most players.
JAZ 2x10 combo (full power setting)
Vol - 12:00
Treb - 10:30
Mid - 10:30
Bass - 9:30
Mast - Full (reset to required volume)
Rev - 8:00 (tweak to taste)
Trem - as needed
Koch Load Box (40% output if needed)
or
Brakelite (1st detent)
Overdrive setting is usually played with the OCD only. The AC Comp is only used to add a little more "hair" and compression to the OCD, never alone. I have a bunch of other pedals (28) but I only add them if a particular job requires it.
