Is this amp the ultimate Z?
Can it go from cleans to singing lead tones...
more versatile than the maz 18?

This discussion is necessarily little bit like: What's better Glenfiddich or Pinch? Who's better Raquel Welch in 1965 or Farah is 1970? Who's better Patton or Rommel?
It's always about context. ..................................... but what the hell, I'll take the bait.
The Maz has a master volume, effects loop, reverb, more EQ and it's foot switchable so, by design it is able to be configured for more different kinds of standard guitar rigs/pedals etc. It's built like a tank, it is altogether a great guitar amp.
The Z-Wreck has boxcar load of PFM (Pure Freakin' Magic)
The Wreck is all tone and touch all the time. You could do nearly anything with it but it takes more player ability and forethought.
You can make a Z-Wreck sound like a Maz but you can't make a Maz sound like a Z-Wreck.
So who's better Diana Rig in 1965 or Angelina in 2004? A Glock 9 or a AK47? A CAO Black or a Hoyo de Monterrey?
'S all Good.

agree with bigbean. the answer is yes, if you have some space, and can open this amp up, and have some touch on your instrument, you will discover what seems to be a nearly unlimited range of expression.

Ducking!! And going back to my section now. "Your" section??? I didn't know there was a Scott or Burstbucker Pro section now!!?? ;D Is this amp the ultimate Z? Can it go from cleans to singing lead tones... more versatile than the maz 18? When I first got my Z Wreck I described it as a giant Maz 18. Not to be confused with the Maz 38. The 'Wreck is a special creation and similar to a more powerful Maz Jr with it's own flavors thrown in as well. Great amp but it all depends on what your after. The Remedy is could also be in the "ultimate" category...or the StangRay...or the Route 66....or the "next" Z amp..coming soon~

Oh yeah... Guess I should have said the section I belong. Funny how I do find myself reading all Z Wreck posts. If I can ever swing a second Z, the Wreck or Remedy would be it.

well i get pretty much everything "I" want out of an amp with the Z Wreck...I've only played a few Z's...I'm fortunate to live near a Z dealer....and in my opinion its one of the best sounding amps out there right now...I can go from snappy cleans to marshally/voxy dirt....cranked it almost sounds like a cranked plexi with humbuckers....I can't imagine why anyone would part with one of these babies? I also own a EZG 50 dr.z and I use it to run my many pedals thru...it really loves pedals more than the z wreck does...the z wreck is meant to be played by itself, no pedals...IMHO it sounds best that way. The maz 18 is a nice amp but it it were that much better than a wreck I would own one...but the z wreck can do the maz 18 tone and more...just my opinion. cheers! note: if you buy a Z Wreck for home practice...make sure you buy an attenuator for it to help get the most out of it at lower volumes... A Z airbrake would be an awesome choice for sure...

Make no mistake Jason... As much as I love my Jr., I'd trade you even up for your Z-Wreck in a heart beat!! (Right after I took my hundreds of dollars worth of NOS tubes out first)

Well I did just sell my Z-Wreck and did keep my Maz Jr, so it can happen. The Jr does everything I need, and at a volume that is more consistent with my "play at home" situation. I would have loved to keep the Z-Wreck, but what I saw there was a ton of money sitting unused. Does it sound great? Absolutely the greatest! Sometimes that's not the only consideration. Between the Maz Jr and the Remedy I have everything I ever wanted in tones. Yeah, there are tones in the Z-Wreck that I can't get with these two, but those are tones I hadn't even known about before it came to live here. Won't bother me much that I can't get there any more.

Any regrets yet Steve? Yes and no. I regret that I have but one studio to fill with equipment and have to make difficult choices sometimes. But no, I made the right choice here. Oddly, I decided to sell the Maz Jr because of its weight, and ended up with a Z-Lux, Therapy and Ghia, but I still have my Remedy.
