I know it's sacrilege, but I've been thinking of branching out a bit amp-wise and was wondering if any Z bros have any experience with the Cub II. It's pretty MAZ-like in terms of basic architecture--EL 84s, about 20 watts, cut control, etc. It does have a half-power switch, which is cool, and the clips I've heard are pretty impressive. That said, the MAZ 18 NR is still the best amp I've ever owned (love the '28 and the Ghia, too, don't get me wrong). Would a Cub II basically be Maz 18 all over again? Should I keep my guitar room all Z all the time and buy a Monza V2 instead? Is the world ending, or is it just an early spring in Wisconsin? Inquiring minds want to know!

You really think someone will recommend getting brand x from this board?

I had a Bad Cat Cub II 2-10, one of the first ones (Sampson built) that had some Matchless surplus parts. It was a pretty good amp, but I sold it because it didn't get along with pedals real well and I never really bonded with it. What it does, it does well but wasn't nearly the amp my Maz Jr is. IMHO, you can get more amp and way better customer service for the money.
Mine didn't have a half power switch, that might something on the newer ones.

Yeah--if I had a LP or other humbucker guitar I was in love with, I'd definitely be looking at a rem. I'm mostly single-coils and filtertrons at the moment, though.

I have a Bad Cat Cub ll Reverb that is about 8 years old and I have a Carmen Ghia W/2 X10 Dr Z cab, I honestly can't say which one I like more as they a very different amps, they are both great at what they do. One thing about the BC is it is very sensitive to pick attack, much more so than the CH. When I am doing alot of Rhythm I use the master vol feature, it sound more AC/30 - AC/15 ish too me.. With the MV off it is just a great clean sound with lots of bottom if thats what you want and the Cut Knob is great. Both are awesome amps and I am lucky to own both.

Not sure how I missed this but I have a Cub IIr head and 1x12 cab. Everytime I think about selling it for something I play it and think - wow this is a great amp. Fire away w/ any spec questions.
