My JAZ has become the most versatile amp in my collection. The 50's/60's show I play requires a lot of different tones with different guitars and the JAZ nails them all. I also played a classic rock gig recently that did some tunes by Led Zeppelin and Mountain and with the proper pedal I got those sounds too. I have sold a couple of amps since I bought it and it has become really the only amp I use. I wish I had another for a back-up. I have a Maz Jr that I still use for some things and a couple of old Fenders that I love but I don't want to rely on a 47-year-old amp at a job. I don't see much action on this thread. Is anyone else out there using these much? I'd like to hear about settings with different guitars. Also any experience with power tubes other than the stock JJ's.

I'm out there, and in here too. I play mine a lot of the time, though the Ray gets it's fair share of use. I'm hoping to get a 4x10 cab for it soon, I really like how different speakers give it a different shade of cool. With an amp like this, wouldn't another as a backup be nice though. Or a Galaxie. cheers/tom
***so far, JJ 6v6's have served me well in the Jaz. When I did my first and only re-tube - I put exactly what the Doc uses in where needed. But suggestions are always welcome. Maybe Doctorice will chime in, as he has a much more extensive understanding of tubes and tones. Glad you're enjoying such a fine amp.

Yeah, 4 tens is way cool. I have a 2x10 combo and I normally use only that but sometimes I add a 2x10 extension cab with a series wired cable so I can use the 8 ohm tap. It sounds huge. I sold a blackface Super Reverb to buy the JAZ and with the extra cab it really covers that type of Fender sound. I never use the 20 watt setting because I don't care for the way the amp compresses like that. It's not a problem because the master volume works so well. Way better than any other amp I've owned. I'm still using the original JJ power amp tubes. They have about 150 hours on them. I have a set of NOS Marconi 6V6's that I want to save for recording so I will probably need to get another set soon.

It sounds great also if you max out the master, and just use the volume control for loudness. Most of the time, I use the master at about noon - volume at 11. Treble & Bass at 11 o'clock / middle at noon. I like the Gold 1x12 or the Dr Z 2x10 the best, but I really want to get a larger cab to take full advantage of the tone of this amp. Suggestions? other than a Dr Z 4x10 that is.

Maybe Doctorice will chime in, as he has a much more extensive understanding of tubes and tones. Well, I seriously doubt that, but I appreciate the kind words. To date, I've not been tempted to try a tube swap. I like the JAZ as is, although I continue to find it "quiet" with respect to output sound level compared with both the MAZ Jr and the Remedy, which I have at half power as with the JAZ.

I'll have to try a comparison between the RAY & the JAZ to see where they sit volume wise. But with the JAZ, I never need to use the B/L - just the master.
