The elegant is dated 1999. Ebony board. Don't know the SN yet, seeing it on Sat. They cost about $4000 new? ? There's a nice looking PRS singlecut there too. That would be one like I had John , they started making them around that time and I'm thinking this one will be an early one with the custom shop inlay in the headstock as opposed to the later ones just having the custom shop decal on the back of the headstock . If it sounds anything like the one I had....KILLER ! ;D I like my PRS guitars but I've yet to try a PRS single cut . Let us know what you think of them .

I will be the lone voice in the hurricane and say gibsons are grossly overpriced. The epiphone les pauls are 500$. There is nothing you can do to that guitar to make it worth 4x as much. Even if you rubbed the finish out on the thighs of virgin supermodels, you couldn't justify it to me. I don't believe the hype. These look really nice. They have some lower models that look really nice too. Friends of mine who own them say very nice things about them. I'll have one soon. And with the 1500$ I save I will go buy a ghia or something. www.rondomusic.net/product846.htmlwww.rondomusic.net/product686.html

Are these guitars make in the US?
These are some unheard prices with upgrade options that are found on boutique guitars. ;D

Yes a lot of Gibson's are overprice but then so are a lot of other guitars too . All in what a person can justify is worth the cost and if they have deep pockets to boot . It's a matter of personal choice . A lot of fine off shore guitars that might need a few upgrades such as pickups to make them sound better . Edited to add....I still prefer to spend the extra and support NorthAm made products and feel better about owning one then one made off shore somewhere . That's just a personal choice I have made .

Yep I'm with patriotism. Unfortunately here in the UK everything is made in China EXCEPT my amps and guitars........... I'm serious interested in this LP, I don't mind second hand as long as it is in good condition. I had an LP standard that was not finished off well, spoilt what was a nice guitar. Couldn't fault Gibson's after sales service (UK) though, I got put through to one of their techs when I had PU problems. Nik Huber produces some beautiful axes. He makes a 'Junior' with a single p90 at the bridge, can't find one anywhere.

I should have mentioned there are some fine builders in the UK who I would not include with the "off shore" group . If that guitar is 2nd hand all the better and that's how I now purchase most of my gear , saves you on that initial loss you will take on any new gear .

Gordon Smith and Fret King are both in the U. K.. Dan Erlewine really likes those makers a lot.

After playing nothing but Strats for years, I recently bought a '58 VOS LP in Washed Cherry. Very pricey at $3K, but also worth it, imo - the best playing and sounding guitar I've ever owned. The store I bought from had five LPs - two VOS, two NOS, and a Jimmy Page model. At 10K, I didn't even bother with the Page. Both of the NOS LPs looked great, but the sound was just okay, and both felt "stiff". Both of the VOS LPs played and sounded great but, to my ears, the one I took home sounded richer and a bit warmer. All of the VOS models have the fret plecking, and the difference in playability is noticeable. 3K might be too much, but years from now, when LPs are going for three times that, I'll have a great guitar that'll make me smile every time I play it. I would definitely recommend the VOS LPs, but I suppose it comes down to what do you have / want to spend and what makes it all "worth it". Is it true that all the VOS models run through the PLEK machine? If so, that would explain why the '57 Goldtop VOS I played was so incredibly magically good... jh

well, there sure is no shortage of opinions and info on this thread, so i'll keep it short. my vote is definitely for the LP Standard (mine is a 1990 that i absolutely love). generally speaking, i have heard that 1990 - 1992 are some of the best production years for LPs. on the whole, LPs from the 70s are very hit and miss in terms of quality; same for the 1980s. LPs from the late 50s and 60s are sweet, but you'll pay a very hefty price compared to models from the early 90's. good luck.

I love my 91 LP Custom, but it's just to darn heavy. Have you thought of going with a PRS?

The LP elegant is fabulous and light in comparison to standard LP's. When I got to the guy's place he also had a custom shop Esquire which completely messed up my decision making, played em both through a BadCat 30W combo and an AC30, thought the Vox was far better.

So John Boy, which one didja leave with? The Esquire is deceptive AND seductive, you can do a lot with that one little ol' coil o' wire in the back. I saw a new Japan Esquire for about four hunnerd dollars a while back with a PERFECT neck on it. Isn't the Elegant LP the one that's chambered to keep the weight down a little? Or is that the 'Cloud 9'? Or did I DREAM that? ;^) Ahh, for the days when there was a Strat, a Tele, and a Les Paul at the music store...

BW, yep the LP is chambered and much lighter. The Esquire is fabulous, as you say it's very deceptive. There's a Jeff Beck tribute there too that looks like someone belt sanded it blindfold. Didn't get either as I'm seeing how much interest develops before making an offer. You've got an LP if I rememer correctly?

Hey John , did the Elegant have the inlay on the headstock or the decal on back ? I played an Esquire when I was around 12 years old(1967) . My guitar at the time was a Hofner but I recall how amazing the Esquire felt and played .

When I was about 20 a friend of mine borrowed a blackguard Esquire from somebody, I never knew who. We both thought it was a pretty crummy guitar and both liked our SGs better. The owner wanted $125 for it and we both passed! Young, dumb and full crap!

. You've got an LP if I rememer correctly? Yeah, a '68 Black Beauty Custom I've had since about '77. Well, thought it was a '68 for all these years, I was recently 'enlightened' that it is indeed a '69 and worth substantially less ;^) Funny how my guitars are always worth less than the other guy's. Only got four hunnerd and fifty bucks in it, so I'm still OK I guess, that's about what its worth to me.

Nighthawk, it's got the decal on the back. I was fairly convinced about it until the guy handed me the Esquire, my wife was pacing up and down waiting to go shopping. I'll have to again on my own.

Yeah BW I had two guys in a shop arguing whether my strat was a 62 or 63. It is a 62 as it turned out, there's an overlap in serial numbers apparently. With my usual luck I would have expected it to be a Taiwanese clone....... If your black beauty is getting in the way at home I've got a nice little place where it will be very welcome. 68 or 69 I don't really mind.
