I've been noticing discomfort when playing the Strat or Tele's with 11-49's , sort of like I may be getting carple tunnel problems so I'm going to go down to 10-46's and see how I do . I like the 11's but not if they are going to screw me up ! Anyone else had problems like that ?

Elixir nanowebs in 10-46. I work at a music store so I get a little cheaper anyway. But I like the way they sound. I don't have oily acidic skin, so strings dont gunk up on me and last a long time. With the Elixirs they last even longer.

SOB strings are terrific! The original vintage ones have a huge fat tone like not other string made. If you are looking for big, fat and warm try them. They are expensive but worth the money. The other strings I really like are the Kurt Mangan 10.5-48 a really great string on any guitar.

I've been on an experimentation kick lately - since I've been in Nashville I've used whatever was free on the particular tour I was on (D'Addario, Ernie Ball, Dean Markley, etc...). I've never really been too picky about strings (although I seem to "bond" with the D'Addario stuff). I recently ordered a bunch of different pure nickel sets from MF as well as some Snake Oils. So far I like the DR Pure Blues and the Snake Oils. The GHS Nickel Rockers were dead after one show, the Ernie Balls lasted a bit longer, the GHS Burnished Nickel were kind of cool - felt a little different to me. I've still got a set of the Gibson nickel strings to try. Dean Markley sent me a box of their new Super V strings and they seem to be pretty cool. Not pure nickel but a higher nickel content than regular nickel-plated steel. They also have a pure nickel Jimi Hendrix set coming out. I tend to change strings a lot, so the Snake Oils may be a bit pricey for me. Okay - I've rambled enough!

I'm not an Eric Johnson fan (nothing against him, just not my thing) but I love the strings he endorses for GHS. They are pure nickel half rounds. Very well balanced from string to string with a great tone. A good vintage sound, but not too smooth. I've really grown accustomed to the smooth, but still bumpy feel of the halfwounds (sometimes called ground wounds).

I have a set of Thomastik Infeld flats on my Annie right now that I really like. I'm going to give their rounds a shot next time but it'll have to wait as flats last a long, long time.

Thought I had carpal tunnel, but after getting x-rays found out it was arthritis. Started physical therapy for my left hand, had my playing position checked by the therapist and dropped down to 10's. Don't second guess yourself, especially when it comes to losing your ability to play your guitar. Have it checked it out.

I just went back up to 11s on longer scale guitars (always used em on Gibson 24.75" scale guitars).
I've noticed that it's a little stiffer and I can feel some aching after playing awhile. But I also notice that my Zion strat is much worse for this than my Zion Tele-- though the neck profiles are almost identical.
What's the difference? Nut width! The strat is 1 5/8" and the Tele is 1 11/16". That extra tiny fraction of an inch makes all the difference. Doing a standard full step bend is less fatiguing on the wider neck-- less fight from the neighboring strings.
I'm considering going back down to 10s. Of course the 11s sound better, but I'm not convinced that last little bit is worth the fight.
I have to just embrace that fact that I have small dainty little paws instead of the big mitts of some other players. I'll never have the gloves of a Clapton or Hendrix or SRV, all of whom have pretty big hands.
There's no shame in playing 10s. Besides, Z amps makes 10s sound better than other amps with 11 could ever hope.

Be sure the necks have the same amount of relief so that you're sure you're not feeling that difference.

I use D'addario EXL 115 (.011-.049). Good gauge for both standard and Eb tuning. I often drop the E string to D and using a lighter gauge would not allow to maintain a good definition on bassy notes.
It's true that the D'addario go dead quickly. I change the set every 2 weeks or something but it could be changed after only one week of daily playing.

I've used DR hi-beams for years, and loved how they sounded (although a few salespeople were surprised to learn that I used them to play rock and country - apparently, they supposed to be used for heavy metal. Who knew? Not me - I'd used them for probably ten years before I heard that.) but had some real problems with them buzzing on my PRS. My tech said that that's not uncommon with hand wound strings, as they can be a bit inconsistent from set to set. So I'm trying out a few different GHS sets (boomers and nickel rockers, i think). I like 'em, but I still think I prefer the DRs. And I'm not ashamed to admit I play 10s.

Oldgoat , I went through some tests a few years back and I'm borderline carpel tunnel so the doc advised me at that time to be careful not to aggrivate it . I'm finding the 10's are working fine for me with no huge difference in sound
