there's a few other threads on the jr forum about this. just don't forget you'll need at least a pair of greenbacks @ the right ohms rating and wired right to make it safe for the EX. but 1 gold would be a good place to start. you can make a lot of good combinations with that speaker.

Mine sounded great through a gold yesterday. Did you get your new amp yet? It came this morning while I was working - I'll get you a couple shots by the weekend.

So far I'm really liking the RX. Mine has no negative feedback and would maybe consider adding some to get more headroom. Also if your interested V1 is only using half the tube for one gain stage, later ones use both sides in parallel. There is also a gut shot floating around of what appears to be a much later one with no boost jack on the back and split load cathode bias on the output tubes. let us know how you like it rp

I recently traded my Remedy head for an RxES head with the MV mod and I'm absolutely in love with this amp. I got it because I have a Junior Strength and wanted the same basic sound/tone but with more horsepower (and the MV mod).
I've played it through all my cabs:
1. at a recent gig through my Dr Z 1x12 + 2x10 cabs in a mini-stack. It sounded fabulous!
2. through my Dr Z 2x12 with Alnico Blues. Sounds terrific!
3. through a Z-Best. Not my favorite.
4. my favorite: 4x12 Avatar cab with two Hellatone 30s and two Heritage Greenbacks. This sounds phenomenal! Try a good 4x12. You'll love it!

You ain't gonna get off easy with THIS amp-have to do your homework, and it looks like you have plenty of lab equipment. But, here is a clue..it sounds great with EVERYTHING. Start with a Gold.

Can the original Rx (45 watts) run a pair of Blues without blowing them? I know how to do the math that 45 > (15 + 15) but, these numbers are of course approximations, and in practice a pair of Blues seems a pretty standard configuration for four EL84s (AC30, etc.). Cheers.

Cheers. Seems like quite a stretch to me... I wouldn't try it myself. Besides, I somehow don't see 2 × Blues being ideal for the Rx anyway—I'd think you'd want to retain some more lows, like with maybe 2×Golds or a pair of 30 W Webers (Blue Dog+Silver Bell or 2×Silver Bells). Blue+G12H30 would probably sound great too, but again there's that wattage thing. Just my 2 cents.

Probably a good call not to risk it.

Resurrecting a (sort of) old thread here, but I think it's pertinent.
Yesterday I plugged in my just-back-from-service original Rx into an open-back Avatar 2x12 loaded w/ Scumbacks: Scumnico + J75. It was FAB-U...wait for it...LOUS! Fabulous. Just fabulous. I have no inclination to plug that amazing amp into anything else.

I really like my V30 in a closed back mojotone cabinet, sounds great and plenty loud. At one point I had a g12h30 in the cabinet, for got it was in there but I have the master volume mod done to the amp so I didn't blow it up. They're a pretty tough speaker anyways
