What the hell happenned on this train wreck mix of an album. I can listen to this in my car on a crappy stereo on low volume. Its got some great tunes and great guitar playing. But I put this on my much higher resolution 2 channel rig that is much more revealing and I can't even stand to listen to it more than a couple of minutes. Very ear fatiguing and so loud. Compared to where I play most of my vinyl and some of my better mixed CD's I've got this thing 3 clicks lower in volume and it still screams. Somebody tell Brad the loudness wars are over. I don't find Brad's recordings real well mixed. I guess his music audience isn't necessarily the audiophile type listener but this album I find is the worst. Very strange for someone that agonizes so much over great guitar tone.

I have noticed his albums are steadily getting louder myself. glad I'm not the only one picking up on this.

they are more than likely mastered to sound great where most people listen to their music...for me its in my jeep....sounds awesome, mixed perfectly!

I listen to this album a lot on my iPod and in my living room system. Sounds fine. I never play any of his albums on my high end system in the basement! However, I have a lot of music like that...not only his Actually, 'Whiskey Lullaby' sounds pretty good on my downstairs system. However, I usually listen to that by way of Alison Krauss.....did I mention I love AK Keith

Those first few notes on the acoustic in "This is Country music" sound so big and powerful on my high end stereo, then the whole band piles in and its just a wall of noise. Alison Kraus has amazing recordings that sound great on high end systems. She has a couple of audiophile mastered albums in circulation.

I don't buy vinyl so I didn't take advantage of the MoFi audiophile vinyl releases of her older stuff a few years ago. I do have the new album in 96/24 FLAC through HDTracks, though. Her voice is magic Keith

I suspect Brad sees himself primarily as a live player, so thinks through that tone most of the time - well, playing Z amps, of course that's what he thinking about!! ;D

No disrepect to the 1000+ Paisley fans on here..and I dig his playing too...but not only have I noticed the "louder" thing, but a lot of his songs seem to have gotten "busier" as well. The last few songs I've heard on radio by him seemed like they were dedicated to using EVERY TRACK AVAILABLE....sheeesh! He's already proved many times over that he can out-play most any of us, and I've never heard him get a bad tone...I just find it hard to listen to some of the current everything-and-the-kitchen-sink production.

Its not just his playing but the whole production sounds busy and muddled. And I am speaking mainly his latest CD. I don't know how much say Brad gets over the mastering process so as far as the loudness/compression I don't know if that is his fault.

Can't say I find his music has gotten 'busy' in a negative sense. Sure, there's definitely more going on. However, I've always found that there is never a struggle between instruments to be 'heard' in his music and that's what I've always liked...even on the new stuff. There's a lot happening in Brad's band...twangy guitar, pedal steel, fiddle, etc. I tend to find that when it's time for, say, a pedal steel highlight, the other instruments take a supporing role. I don't really that its crowded. As well, one thing I will say, is that unlike a lot of bands that crowd their recording and then take a stripped down representation on the road so that when you hear the songs they don't sound quite 'right', Brad's live show has all of those elements up on stage and sounds great live..nothing really sounds missing. Brad knows he has a killer band and graciously lets them take a little spotlight now and then, IMHO, of course Keith

I love Brad's new album. Every album he ever puts out is different. They all have their own character. It may be mixed a little hot, but overall I don't find it cluttered sounding.

I'll have to listen to the albums one at a time and see for myself. Haven't noticed. Have to get out the db meter and see.

It msut be just listening to his recordings on audiophile equipment. I guess its like any other recording of the day where its been mastered for ipods and cheap car stereos. When I play his discs in the car its fine. Played on my 2 channel stereo and its loud overly compressed (some to the point of distortion and harsh. And no its not my equipment. I have a Rega P3-24 turntable that I play alot of audiophile vinyl on that sounds amazing. And my disc player is a Rega Appollo, which although you can get for around $400 used was about a grand when it came out. My recent remastered Pink Floyd discs sound great on the Appollo but my brad Paisley discs sound like ****..

The only tune that I recall that sounded decent was Whiskey Lulllaby....but I'd say that had some of the AKUS production value input. Keith
