The reverb tank (MOD-8AB2A1B) that is used in the Maz18 Jr. MkII is the WRONG TANK for VERTICAL placement; the B designation at the end of the model is for HORIZONTAL placement. What you really want to use, and what Dr. Z should be installing as OEM, is the MOD-8AB2A1C tank that is designed for VERTICAL orientation. I have tried asking the good Dr. about this (yes, I own a recent Maz18 Jr. MkII combo) and so far have not heard any response. I took my original tank and placed it on the bottom of the cabinet so that it is now horizontal with the open side facing down, and the hum is all but gone and the reverb sounds 100% better. Try it!!!

Hi, Thanks for sharing your research, a couple points, mounting on end with input on top, according to the manufacturer the number would be 8AB2A1E however, in reality this configuration is unavailable. Why mount it on end on the inside of the cab ? The same reason that the bags are packed with dampening material, it reduces the tendency to feedback Why does the orientation of the jacks matter ? Noise reduction, the tank output needs to be oriented so that the least amount of hum is inducead in it by the power transformer. Not sure which address you've been writing to but if you'd like to talk about this further I'm available 8-4 M-F at repairs@drzamps.com and drzrepairs@gmail.com my direct number is 216-475-1962 Thanks Don Depew DRZ Repairs

Does anybody know if changing tanks is the main change Dr Z has done with the Reverb on the Maz? Or if there are other changes? Also can we confirm the right part # and impedance tank for upgrading the Mk 1 combo? I'm pretty keen to improve the verb on my 2008 Maz 18 any way I can.

I think your best served having it looked at...I believe it was a circuit design change as well (fall of 2017 >)?...my newer maz reverb...no noise, just nice deep verb...ive owned 5 of them (2 still)and went through this x 2.fwiw.
