Had to buy it......good, bad or ugly ;D My favorite band of all time. Just sat back in the living room and gave it a first pass through. This album is not for everyone (just like every other VH album ) I love it The album has swagger. Even the tunes that were trickled out in the past few weeks (the old stuff they did live that they re-branded) are catchy. Some of the songs give a nod to old VH. Funny, some of the songs in the middle of the album have that sound that Roth had on his first two albums with Vai. To me, it's almost like a natural progression of where VH would have gone after 1984 with Roth having a little more input into the sound. There is a lot of guitar on this album.....if there are keyboards buried somewhere, I didn't hear 'em. If nothing else, to me the band didn't just put out a safe album based on the past. I really like it and it rocks. As far as Eddie's playing, well, it's safe to say most of the tunes on this album I'll never be able to play well ;D Eddies guitar tone is not the VH1 sound. At times it's got that more compressed feel. A couple songs have that 'Balance' vibe but overall there's a lot of tones on the album. Eddie has a fair bit of wah pedal work on this one, not over the top but sprinkled throughout. I'm on my second pass through as I type this and I love it. Anyone who is a VH/Roth fan.....pick it up ! Right now the use playing is China Town. anyone who liked 'Elephant Gun' on Roth's "Eat 'em and Smile" will love this one. Keith

I'm right there with you Keith. I posted my thoughts on the new CD in the Lounge - kept it on Lefty's thread about the first single, Tattoo. I've been through the CD about 5 times now and I really like it. It's HEAVY. To me, it's kind of a mix of Fair Warning and Balance with a bit of influence of Roth's solo work, as you mentioned. There are 5-6 tunes that are reworks of old songs. But that's ok for me. I like the reworking. Just finished "Beats Working". Back to the top.
