Don't have mine yet, but am already wondering about the alternatives to the blue and H30. Anyone tried with a heritage, tone tubby, or red fang 12?

When mine arrives I hope to try it out with a red tubby and a weber legacy.

Perhaps some of those with MAZ 8 heads have given it a go with some alternatives. I'm just living with the Blue.

I'm loving the BLue but I do have a Eminenece "Lil' Texas" here that I'm gonna try out soon (for the 5 pound weight savings)

I'm considering the neo options myself. The tonker, lil texas, and I've heard that the Celestion G12 Century sounds like a G12H30 but lighter because of the neo magnet. Keep us posted roscoe.

Wish I would have tried the Celestion Century (neo) with the 8 before I traded it off. The Century with the Maz 18 sounds awesome, great bass response and overall good tone. I can't imagine it not sounding good with the Maz 8.

I also have the studio w/the blue and have a 3/4 open back cab with a 8 ohm vintage 30 that I plug it into once in a while. It sound raunchishly good but not as colorful as the blue... no pun intended
I wasn't a believer at first but the blue's getting broke in and I'm diggin it more-so now

Hi,
Very rookie member here, but I'll be more than pleased to share my feeling about my future Maz 8 in a Mojotone BV-25M (Greenback clone), in both open and closed back configurations.
Cheers,

Tried the 8 with a weber legacy 30watt 30oz magnet and it sounded great to my ears. I wasn't sure what to expect but I like it. Even more than the g12h30. I should also mention I got the speaker with the H screen dustcap which is supposed to attenuate the highs somewhat.
With the H30, if I push the 8 into distortion, especially w/ the eq bypass engaged, it can get fizzy. The legacy knocked the fizz down alot and made the gain alot smoother.
The cleans sound great too. Pretty chimey but never ice pickey. However, overdrive is where this speaker shines IMO.

One of these days when I get a MAZ 8 studio combo (if all goes as planned, it will be sooner than later) I fully intend to try a Weber P12Q-style speaker in there—ya know, tweed-deluxe style. Just for kicks. Anyone already tried something like that yet? [Yeah yeah, I know.. you're probably all perfectly happy with the Blue. Which, itself, actually works well in tweed deluxes, anyway.]

so far the tone tubby alnico red is a keeper. Has the warmth I want plus I don't miss any of the highs. Reminds me a bit of a G12 heritage. Maybe if I spent some time breaking in the G1270th it would get close, but I haven't taken the time.

Z-Best 2x12 loaded with WGS Vet 30 & Reaper 30 sounds mighty fine. I use it when we play larger venues for more Volume/headroom. Smaller rooms I use my Avatar 1x12 closed back with 25w Greenback. Covers all the bases for me so far. I'll be trying other speakers in the future in the never ending quest for "that sound!" :-) I doubt I'll ever find it.....

I tried the eminence private jack that I had laying around. It sounded OK. There was something about it that left me wanting more. Just not the sound I'm looking for I guess. But it was in the studio cab, so I'm sure that speaker would sound much better with the 8 in a closed back cab.
Anyone try any other NEO options?

Mine has been at the studio so I never installed the Neo.

I have two 1X12 cabs, ones a closedback and the other is a covertible cab. I had a Celestion Elite 80 in the closed cab, that one I wasn't too crazy about. In the convertible cab, there was a Greenback, which I did like.
Just to mix it up, I ordered a Weber BlueDog and a SilverBell, both 50 watts. I'm still in the break in period, though I do find them to be getting better all the time.

I ordered a 50w Weber Silver Bell yesterday. I specified to have them run it through a break in, so it should arrive ready to go.

I'm thinking a weber 50w bluedog would sound nice in the 8.
