Just wanted to point out that the EVM 12L is not a drop in fit in the JAZZ. If anyone had thoughts on trying one, you will have to do some modifications. The frame is huge, thick cast aluminum. Not sure the correct term, but the part of the frame that looks like spokes on a wheel hit the output transformer. There are gaps in the spokes, and if I line up the gap where the transformer interferes the speaker will fit over the hole in the baffle correctly..... but the holes dont line up. The speaker needs to be rotated about 45 degrees to match up, then the spoke is right on the transformer. I ended up using some wood screws and washers to secure the speaker. I used 1 1/4" screws, and washers to be sure they didnt poke out the front I used all 8 holes as the speaker is a bit heavy. It seems very secure. Gonna be a fun weekend, got some Tungsol power tubes today also. Heres some pics of the tight fit: Had to sneak this in too.....

Well I changed the tubes first and played it for about an hour. They did what I expected them to as I have the same ones in my Remedy. Smoothed out the highs some, took some edge off the overall sound. More cream less crunch. Sounds nice to me.
Then I changed the speaker and played for about 45 minutes. Its a big change in sound. Dont really know how best to describe it. I guess overall the amp sounds more tweedy. Have to mess with the eq more.
Alot of changes for one day....brand new speaker so I dont want to say too much. But I like it.

Yeah Mike, it replaced the standard G12H30. I have tried other speakers as well just for the heck of it. Had a Gold in it for a while.... liked that alot also. Then replaced that with a Jensen Blackbird and then...... well tried a few Eventually I put the original G12H30 back in and stuck with that for a while. I've been at it for a good part of the day today. I think I'm hooked on these Ev's. Yeah they are a little heavier, but it's not really that noticable. The Jazz isnt a light amp to begin with, so an extra 10 lbs or so really isnt that noticable. it was heavy before, not it's just a little heavier. The Jazz is a pretty bright amp to my ears. Without the cut like the MAZ I find I was running the treble really low.... almost off. After the speaker swap and tube swap my treble has raised, bass has dropped and mids raised. So for my tastes it has turned this into the ultamate. I play mostly blues. The Jazz pretty much delivers what I want without pedals, but sometimes I boost it up a bit with a very conservitive pedal setting. Before, I feel the attack of the Jazz was a bit to immedieate, and it was a bit too crunchy. Great for classic rock, but a little too tight for my blues needs. After these changes it has more of a laid back attack, but still delivers crunchy chords. The treble is smoother and more pleasing to my ears, and the bass is stronger yet tighter. The Ev seems to eliminate some of those wierd frequencies that sound harsh to the ears. Keep in mind this is all evaluated at home playing along to a drum machine and only had it for a few days. The tubes knocked down a few Db's at least, and the Ev sounds smoother and although BIG sounding, I havent had it in a band contex. I use this amp mostly at home, the Remedy is my "band" amp and stays at the drummers house. T.Y. asked what tubes? All pre amp tubes are original. Power tubes (JJ's) were replaced with Tungsol 6V6GT's.

Try a NOS GE12AX7 in V1. I got mine from Mike at KCA NOS Tubes. It smooths things out a little without adversely affecting the character of the amp. I have tried several other speakers in my JAZ and I finally converted it to a 2x10. That's what I wanted originally but could only find a 1x12 combo.
