The EL84 installed failed within the first 2 hrs of use. I put a Gold Lion in and after an hour or so it fried. Doc sent another EL84 an EH I think and it worked fine. Z emailed and asked me to send it back as he had some things he wanted to update. Maz sent and returned within a week. Works great and sounds awesome! I'm still finding great tones in this little 8 watt wonder! We gotta gig News Years Eve and I can't wait to let er' RIP!!

Black Studio 1/12 w32058 Yay!!! That should be easy to pickmup and move ;D Congrats! thanks guys, I finally joined the Z owners club. ;D I can't wait till the blues broke in. Last night at rehearsal I paired this up with my modded epi valve jr head & v30 in an open back cab. I think I saw Jesus peeking around the corner smiling. One day I'll replace the epi with a ghia or a monza, maybe a galazie oh crap!

Great way to start down the Z path. The studio combo is really nice, and once that Blue breaks in -- WOW!

Okay, so I've spent about a week or so with the Maz 8. I initially had a rattling V3 tube and called Humbucker Music and they talked to Dr Z and I had a new V3 in about a week's time (along with a V2 and V4 just in case it wasn't just the V3). The amp really sounds amazing! I bought the Taylor T3/B (in the attached pic) earlier last year and hadn't completely fallen in love with it because it just didn't sound like I knew it could with a couple other amps I have. Well, it sounds incredible now - The Maz 8 has given me a whole new love for this guitar. So many possibilities between the Maz 8 and the guitar. I don't have any favorite settings yet as I'm still experimenting. I've played with both Triode and Pentode modes - can't say I have a favorite yet, but leaning towards Triode. The only thing that bugs me is how when I play a low A, or A chord and let it ring out, the cabinet will really resonate and vibrate. Maybe this is normal behavior for an amp like this - it's just not something I'm used to. I mostly think if I wanted to use the amp for recording, the vibrating cabinet is not something I'd want in the recording. Maybe I'm just being picky. Does this happen for everyone? Does the Maz Jr do the same thing?

So I was able to reproduce my little problem this morning with my double-humbcukered strat. I have it in triode mode, everything around 12 except bass and mid around 10 and reverb around 9 ...and then of course when I engage the tone bypass - I can easily reproduce the resonating/vibrating cabinet with the A note at the 12th fret - and seems the sound it makes is coming from the top right when facing the amp. I pressed down on the metal corner and that calmed it down a bit. I went to work thinking maybe something isn't screwed in tight enough, maybe the brake lite? Went home at lunch and decided to see what happens when I take it off the carpet and put it on tile - big difference! Sure, that note really resonates, but the cabinet is not (as much) and not making that unwanted vibrating sound. I feel like I should've known this - but wondering why setting it on carpet would make such a difference? I need to find an amp stand or maybe just a piece wood to set it on.

hmmmm, I'm going to move my Maz 8 onto the hard floor and see if my paper rattle sound goes away, I'm 99% sure mine will go away when the speaker is broken in. I do love the sound of the amp!! Todd

I am soooo psyched, my Maz 8 is a day away. Got a red studio with the blue speaker option and a Brake Lite installed.
I'll be counting the minutes until tomorrow afternoon when UPS arrives.
Couple of questions for you Maz 8 guys: 1) Does the Princeton Reverb tone/mojo really come thru on the 8? 2) The EQ Footswitch also acts as a boost? Is this because the tone stack is bypassed and hence you get no loss from this part of preamp stage?
Thanks!
Stan

Hey Stan, Congrats on your Maz 8! It's different from the Fender reverbs I've had experience with (an old silverface twin, '63 reissue, blues jr, and a handful of reverb pedals). I like it because it's different. It's a nice warm reverb. Maybe someone else will disagree - but that's the only way I can think of describing it right now. You'll find out soon enough! -Erik P.S. I'm still curious if anyone else has had the issue I'd described in my last couple posts - please let me know.

Rumor has it that there are currently more maz 8's on order than all other z amps combined. I think doc has a winner here.

I had a call today from a guy that wanted to talk about me repairing his Carvin 2-12 solid state amp. I tried to talk him into buying a Maz 8 instead :-) It seems silly to turn down what sounded like an easy $50, but I really think he'd be best served by getting an 8 . . . .
