I'm very seriously considering getting a Z-Verb but I was hoping someone could give me some clarification on the reverb tank situation.
It's my understanding that the Z-Verb uses a custom spec'd tank from Accutronics, but they were sold to a Korean company and went & pulled a JJ on us (rimshot), so Doc has switched to Antique Electronics tanks. Do Z-Verbs now use Antique Electronics tanks or are we stuck with the uhhhh 'suboptimal' Accutronics tanks?
I'm aware that a Z-Verb with a slightly shabby tank would still trounce any reverb pedal out there, I just love me some reverb and wanted to clear things up before I put down my $800 (I'm Canadian, eh)

I have a Z-Verb and I love it. While I'm not sure of which tank is in there, any replacement if ever needed will either fall under warranty or be a low cost. You may want to call Z and ask about it before you buy, but if you like REAL REVERB, the Z-Verb won't disappoint you.
I have a few non-working tanks from other amps over the last few years, and the common problem to me seems to be one of the wires from the plug to the spring unit is about .5" too short and breaks at the solder joint. I have bought long and short tanks for some of my Fenders and a short tank used Maz Jr R head that I used to own, and they all had that same problem with the broken wire.
That said my Z-Verb has given me no problems.

Mine has an Accutronics tank. I love it though and it works really well. Beautiful reverb - best ever I think. I've not had any trouble with it at all. Easily replaceable though if it ever does die - pull it out and unplug the RCA plugs and plug in the new one.

Just plug and play. If something happens, give Doc a call and he'll make it right. I don't even know what brand of tank is in mine. Splish splash I was takin a bath...

giving this a bump because I'm just not satisfied with my reverb pedal anymore and wondering if anyone knows what the current situation is with the Z-Verb, it looks like it's been updated recently?

I've replaced a failed Accutronics with a MOD tank that matched the specs. The one I replaced was on a Maz38. It wasn't difficult to match specs when selecting a needed replacement. Yes, tanks will often fail in proportion to the amount of time you transport it. Those spring carriers float on springs and movement and connecting wire just don't go together. Use to be some tanks were made with actual spring locks where you could lock it into place before you moved the amp. Not so much anymore. Matching impedances and grounding schemes are important and deduced from the tank manufacturer's part number. I've often repaired breaking wire, but it's when the actual transducer coil goes that it's best to just replace. My opinion, if you want reverb...go for it...don't let tank changes deter you. Or, just buy tankless with a loop and insert your fave pedal.
