Anyone notice that Fender has a model with the control plate turned around? Check this out: Thinking this is a slam dunk change - puts the volume control right where you need it with nothing interfering. Cool idea - wonder who thought of this first?

Bill Kirchen's guitar was the first I saw. My complaint with the Tele control plate is that the switch is too close to the volume knob. I've done the bent switch like Danny Gatton but what worked better for me was on one guitar I actually had the hole redrilled and the volume pot moved over about 3/8".

I flipped the plate on my very first Tele, thought I was a trend setter !! I've hand made a few control plates and moved the volume pot back a touch, helps a bunch too, but what works best IMO, kinda kills the Tele aestetics, but I made a control plate and drilled 3 holes, used a Les Paul type 3 way switch and turned it to the up/middle/down positon, worked out REAL well, this tele had a 'Lil '59 in the Bridge and a Duncan '59 'bucker in the neck so I added Les Paul knobs also and called it "LesterCaster". Dern thing killed on rock tones through my '67 Bassman Head .....

I would have flipped mine around already, but the wires are all too short. Since I just got this Grosh Tele, I didn't really have a great desire to butcher up the wiring quite yet. I'll have to let it live here a while before I suggest a mod to it. That said, I never turn the tone control much, so having the switch interfere with the tone seems a lot more serviceable to me.

Mike Bloomfield had a Gibson switch on his Tele. That actually make the most sense to me.

I guess Don cuts them shorter.

My tele's been that way for 20 years and i don't know if I could put it back original. It's great for doin' volume swells with your pinky and it just seems that is where it belongs.

there was pictures of Bloomfield's Tele either in Guitar Player, Vintage Guitar or Tone Quest not too long ago. I wish I could remember which, old timers kicking in I guess. He would sweat profusely and was also highly acidic so he ruined the electronics on his guitars. I think that was what the picture was about. They lifted up the plate and showed all the corrosion.
