I have a couple of "extra" Maz 18's sitting around on welfare, and am of course interested n that slick new Maz 8, just not too interested in that price. I have had some mods done by the Z shop, and have been very satisfied with the service and the price/benefit ratio. Sooo...I know you knew this was coming... just a matter of time till one of us tightwads thought of it.... Can my 18 be "castrated", and converted to an 8, and add the tone stack bypass? Maybe after they sell the first 5000 or so 8's?What do you think?

I think it would be a lot easier to sell the Maz 18s and buy a Maz 8.

Anything is possible given enough time and money.

I agree with benttop. With enough time and money, sure. But, essentially what that would do is take a push-pull amp and convert to a single-ended amp. Not so much a mod as a completely different design all together. Not sure what the price/benefit would be on that.

I vote for selling the Maz Jr's and just getting the Maz 8, the real joy of the Maz 8 is the Pentode/Triode mode switch, it is really amazing how much is changes the voice of the amp. Todd

You could always be patient and somebody may want to swap in a month or two.

Could be done easily I reckon. Send your Maz18 to the shop for a full mod; they charge you around $1500, and send back an amp that is just like the Maz8 !! Easy Seriously, I reckon bluzman has it about right - in time, someone will have bought the 8 and really wants the 18. Job done ;D

Well, i totally forgot about the triode/pentode thing..and am not enough of an amp wonk to know what is involved in an a/b to open-ended conversion... thought it might be as simple as lopping off a power tube and it's related widgets, and doing a tone stack bypass. As usual you guys set me back on the path of righteousness. Anyone ready to trade?
