I've long been contemplating the EZG-50, craving that blackface sound as spun by Dr Z. I saw what looked like a nice one on eBay, lost and then got a legit second-chance offer from the seller. It arrived and sounds wonderful through the 4x10. Have yet to try it through a Z Best and a 1x12. I will need to put the Air Brake on it to maintain peace in the family. Except when no one else is home

I've been playing my EZG more lately - now I remember why I bought it in the first place! Mike, other than the Prescription amps (and very early Z models) and Mini, I think our collections, taken together, cover the Z lineup. (I'm giving you KT-45 credit for the 6545

This amp haunts me. I could never use it as intended, but it sure does sound good. I'm envious...

Congrats on the new amp. Lately, for about 2 months, I have been struggling with a strong desire for this amp as a complement to the Maz 38. Envious for sure. Have enjoyed your other great reports on amp performance and tone. Very curious as to how it works with the Airbrake. The Maz seems to do just fine with Airbrake, at least for me. Can't wait to hear your insight on the EZG.

Hey Mike, I think we're missing a Route 66 on top of the Rx gap

I play a Rt66 and an EZG each with their own Z 4x10 with an ABY switch......it's hard to use one or the other amp simply because when they are both on, it's such a HUGE sound and the EZG takes care of the Fender-like top and bottom end and the Rt66 takes care of the punchy mids. I'm addicted!

That has got to be a massive sound. Do you use attenuators?

I'm droolin' at the thought of combining a '50 and '66 with a pair of 410 cabs ..... must make a wonderful wall of sound with the PRS guit-fiddles you got listed in yer signature ...... cheers always, Joel

Congrats on the new amp. The EZG is a great amp. I always liked the way mine took pedals. I thought it worked great with overdrives. Enjoy!

When I played Mike's EZG it sounded so much fuller/better than any of the sound clips I listened to. Totally amazed by that big open sound.

I finally got to spend more time on the EZG last night. (I had been focused on the MAZ 8 and dialing it in for gigs.) What a terrific amp. I ran it through the 4x10 and used the Air Brake on 4. Still quite loud. Stuck with my EC Strat to explore what I could get by using the guitar's controls. Answer: a whole lot of good tone I had the reverb set higher than I would with, say, a MAZ. because it sounded so good. It reminds me of the tremolo on the JAZ 20/40: when you're playing a bunch of notes, it's not really prominent, but hit a chord, let it ring or mute it, and there's lovely 'verb. Only stompbox used so far is a newly acquired Boss BC-2. It sounded great through this amp. I'm excited about trying a range of settings and guitars over the next few weeks.

Thanks, Jason. It's overkill for most of the clubs I play in, so it will probably stay in the music room until outdoor gigs resume. Still, I might try it in one of the larger clubs with the Air Brake and maybe a 1x12.

in response to Ice, I dont use attenuators at all. Most clubs I play have great sound guys that believe in letting a guitarist open up a little without being overly loud. Basically letting stage volume be up and just putting a tad of the guitar amps in the mains to get it to the back of a full room. It kinda blew me away when I ran the 66 alone and it sounded great......I ran the 50 alone, and again, it sounded great. I left them both at the same volume and then combined them both with my ABY and it was SO huge sounding without being "boomy". It's like the RT66 provides the meat and the EZG provides the potatoes.

Congrats! Ben lets me play his once in a while and I have to say, if i didnt have my SRZ, I would likely look to the EZG to run with my Remedy.
EZG is fantastic but I wish the reverb had a bit more control to it.
